"An extended arm" for security.

Without uniforms or official positions, motorbike taxi drivers are becoming an "extension" of the police force. They stay close to their assigned areas, detect any unusual activity, and contribute to maintaining peace and order in the neighborhoods.

Every day, motorbike taxi drivers weave through the streets, from residential areas to markets, bus stations, train stations, and schools... The nature of their livelihood allows them to observe and detect unusual signs. Based on this reality, the Motorbike Taxi Club for Crime Prevention in To Chau Ward was established.

In January 2026, the motorbike taxi team received an urgent report from the ward's crime prevention team about a suspect who had intentionally inflicted injuries in the Phu Quoc special economic zone and was attempting to flee to the mainland. As soon as the ship docked, the members of the motorbike taxi team proactively fanned out in multiple directions, coordinating with the police to track and pursue the suspect.

Thanks to previously provided identification information, a member of the team spotted a suspicious individual heading towards the intercity bus station. The motorbike taxi team secretly followed the suspect while simultaneously notifying the police of his exact location. As the suspect was about to board a bus to Ho Chi Minh City, the forces quickly approached and successfully apprehended him.

Mr. Phan Thanh Duy, Chairman of the Motorbike Taxi Club for Crime Prevention in To Chau Ward, said: “The members’ participation in assisting the police in apprehending criminals stems from a spirit of voluntarism and a sense of responsibility to the community. We earn our living through this profession, but when the locality needs us, we are ready to participate. When we spot a suspicious person, we don't handle it ourselves but immediately report it to the police, then coordinate according to instructions to ensure safety. All cases we participate in are under the close direction of the authorities.”

Participating in assisting with the arrest of criminals helps club members raise their awareness of law enforcement and spread a sense of responsibility within the community. However, Duy also frankly acknowledges that this work involves many risks, so members always prioritize safety.

Nguyen Thanh Duc, a member of the Motorbike Taxi Club for Crime Prevention in To Chau Ward, shared: “Having been motorbike taxi drivers for many years, we are familiar with the roads and can somewhat predict who might be acting suspiciously. What makes us happy is seeing people feel safer after each incident, their property protected, and the perpetrators punished. Although making a living is still difficult, everyone feels it's worthwhile when we can contribute a little to maintaining peace in the locality,” Duc said.

In order to promptly recognize and commend the positive contributions to ensuring security and order, the To Chau Ward Police organized an impromptu award ceremony, presenting certificates of merit to the Crime Prevention Motorbike Taxi Club and outstanding individuals who have achieved excellent results in coordinating and assisting the police force in detecting and apprehending lawbreakers.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Hoai Bac, Deputy Head of the To Chau Ward Police, highly praised the role of the Motorbike Taxi Club in crime prevention over the past period, especially its proactive and responsible spirit in coordinating with the police force to maintain security and order in the area. “Motorbike taxi drivers are people who are closely involved in the area every day, and have the opportunity to quickly and promptly gather information. When encouraged to participate in the nationwide movement to protect national security, they have played a very good role, effectively supporting the ward police in detecting, monitoring, and coordinating the arrest of violators. The unexpected commendation is a well-deserved recognition and also serves as motivation for members to continue to be involved in the model,” said Lieutenant Colonel Le Hoai Bac.
