In last week’s 2-2 draw with Monaco in the Champions League, where he scored twice but Man City still lost the victory, Haaland’s eyes on the way off the pitch were so cold it was… beautiful. It was the anger of a perfectionist, someone who lives only with the desire for perfection.

Jamie Carragher may be right. English football once boasted Shearer of 260 goals – a seemingly immortal record. But if Haaland continues to score at this rate, in just a few years, the concept of “eternity” will have to be rewritten.
Because when Erling Haaland steps onto the pitch, everything – the goal, the opposition, the space – becomes a backdrop for one thing: he will score. And when that certainty persists, people no longer talk about performance, but about legacy – of a legend being written in steel, in will, and with a goal-scoring instinct the likes of which English football has never seen before.
