The "golden" student dreams of becoming a doctor.

Although only in the 4th grade this year, young student Vo Anh Minh (Nguyen Du Primary School, Tran Bien Ward, Dong Nai Province) already has two years of experience and has shone brightly in international mathematics competitions.

Moreover, Anh Minh is not only a talented pianist, an exemplary class leader, but also a strong source of inspiration for his friends in their studies.

Proud on the international stage

At the TIMO International Mathematical Olympiad finals held in Thailand in February 2026, among thousands of contestants from many countries, Vo Anh Minh made a strong impression with his rare calmness and confidence. Facing a test of 30 math questions entirely in English, the young student showed no signs of nervousness. With intense concentration and burning passion, Anh Minh once again won the gold medal.

Previously, at the same competition in February 2025, Vo Anh Minh excelled, winning a gold medal along with other awards including: the Boole Cup (perfect score in logic reasoning), the Leibniz Cup (perfect score in arithmetic), and the Euler Cup (perfect score in number theory). This remarkable achievement is not only a source of pride for him personally but also an honor for his family, school, and Vietnamese students on the international stage.

Not only is Vo Anh Minh well-rounded in natural and social sciences, but he has also made a strong impression and won gold and bronze medals at piano-related competitions such as the Keiko Children's Piano Festival and the Bechstein Piano Competition. He has also achieved many impressive results in chess tournaments…

Sharing his "secret" to achieving impressive results in Mathematics, Anh Minh said: It was his grandmother who discovered his talent for mathematics and guided and supported him. His grandmother was his first teacher, introducing him to numbers and teaching him difficult math problems.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, Anh Minh's grandmother, is 69 years old (formerly a doctor at Military Hospital 7B) but still diligently researches new thinking methods to teach her grandson. Ms. Thanh confided: “His parents are busy working, so every day his grandparents pick him up, teach him, and then take him to school. Because of my age, my ability to apply new technologies is somewhat limited. I mainly have him study at home, practicing many times, combining learning and playing. I proactively research all types of logical thinking math problems, combining them with appropriate teaching methods to help him remember and understand deeply. But most importantly, it's his intelligence and quick wit that matter.”

While his grandmother taught Anh Minh mathematics, his father instilled in him perseverance, patience, and meticulousness, and directly taught him English. His father also took him to international mathematics competitions in Thailand and domestic piano competitions.

Mr. Vo Tuan Anh, Anh Minh's father, shared: "Our family has always supported and encouraged our son to develop his full potential. We have never put pressure on him or focused too much on his achievements when he participates in competitions. The accomplishments he has achieved are a foundation that will give him more confidence on his future academic path."

Exemplary "Little Leader"

Not only is he a good son, but at school, Anh Minh is known as an exemplary class leader, both strict in managing the class and enthusiastic in helping his friends.

Ms. Pham Loan Thanh, homeroom teacher of class 4/2, proudly commented: "Vo Anh Minh is a very energetic and lively student, quick to grasp lessons, and frequently participates in class discussions and contributes constructive ideas. He is a member of the school's Student Union Executive Committee and actively participates in class and school activities. As class president, Anh Minh is strict with his classmates but also very enthusiastic in helping them. He has participated in many competitions such as IOE (Internet English Olympiad), the Vietnamese Language Champion Competition, and the VioEdu (Mathematics) competition… He has consistently won high awards, making him a source of pride for the class and the school."

What's remarkable about young student Vo Anh Minh is his incredible ability to balance the dry concepts of numbers with the soaring notes of music. While mathematics helps him develop logical thinking, music is the thread that allows Anh Minh to connect with his emotions and express his thoughts.

Minh shared: “For me, music has a special allure. Sometimes I connect with the people around me through musical notes rather than words. I think that when music plays, people feel more relaxed and appreciate me more.”

When asked about his future dreams, Minh said: “My grandparents and parents are all doctors. Therefore, I will try my best to study hard so that I can become a good doctor, follow in my family's footsteps, and help many people.”
