Gia Loc Thien Tam Club spreads love

Starting the volunteer journey with small but meaningful actions from the first wave of COVID-19, members of Gia Loc Thien Tam Club have continuously spread kindness, connecting volunteers to share with those in need.

Starting in the middle of the epidemic

Gia Loc Thien Tam Club was formed at the end of 2019, right at the time of the COVID-19 outbreak. While many people were facing worries about food and disease, a group of people in the former Gia Loc district (now part of Hai Phong city) quietly started community support activities: providing masks, drinking water, necessities for quarantine checkpoints and people in quarantine areas, consuming agricultural products for farmers...

In 2020, the club was officially launched, gathering many members, from officials, teachers, traders, farmers, workers, laborers to students. Although different in profession, they share the same ideal, which is to bring kindness to the community. To date, the club has more than 30 members and hundreds of collaborators.

Ms. Do Thi Ngan, Chairwoman of Gia Loc Thien Tam Club, said that after the COVID-19 pandemic, the club's activities continued to expand in scale and support. Up to now, the club has mobilized about 500 million VND and many items, helping dozens of difficult circumstances such as: poor households, people with disabilities, students lacking learning conditions, lonely elderly people, policy beneficiaries, etc.

One of the special cases that moved the members was Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (born in 1971), in Phong Lam village, Gia Loc commune. A single woman, disabled and mentally retarded, Ms. Huong lives with her two children in a makeshift house, and her income depends only on garbage collection.

Knowing her situation, the club raised funds to support Ms. Huong’s house construction. “Without the local government, the club members, and the benefactors, my mother and I would not have dared to dream of a solid house. We are extremely grateful,” Ms. Huong said emotionally.

Transparency and engagement

One of the factors that create the reputation of Gia Loc Thien Tam Club is the transparency and professionalism in the organization. The club has clear operating regulations, detailed regulations on the process of mobilizing and using funds to ensure publicity and transparency.

The club regularly holds regular meetings to evaluate activities, review finances, and agree on support plans. This is not only an opportunity to adjust the way of doing things, but also an opportunity for members to share experiences and motivate each other.

Not only is it a place to do charity work together, the club is also a “home” for like-minded people. Internal activities such as organizing club birthdays, celebrating members’ birthdays, visiting sick people, and attending happy and sad events are held regularly, helping members bond more like family.

Mr. Bui Quang Tiep, who is working at the People's Committee of Truong Tan commune, a member of the club since its inception, shared: "The club is a place where I not only do charity work and spread love together, but also find sincere friends who are willing to be together in both work and life."

The club's contributions have been recognized by all levels and sectors. In particular, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union awarded a certificate of merit to Gia Loc Thien Tam Club as an affirmation of its persistent, effective and responsible volunteer journey to the community.

Mr. Tang Van Nguyen, former Secretary of Gia Loc District Youth Union, currently Vice Chairman of Yet Kieu Commune People's Committee, commented: "Gia Loc Thien Tam Club is a typical grassroots charity model. They not only do charity work with their hearts, but also act as an effective bridge between the people, the government and sponsors."

Ms. Do Thi Ngan added that in the coming time, the club will continue to expand its support, especially wishing to expand its membership, especially the youth force, enthusiastic young people, to continue the volunteer journey with new spirit and creativity.

Although it is just a small model, Gia Loc Thien Tam Club has been proving that kindness does not need to be expressed in large-scale activities and programs, love does not need to be full of conditions. Every small action done with a sincere and compassionate heart can touch the hearts of others, light up hope, and warm lives.
