VnExpressVnExpress20/06/2023

Vinh Phu Bridge across the Lo River, connecting Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc provinces, is set to open to traffic at the end of June, after more than a year of construction.

The approach to Vinh Phu Bridge from Tran Phu Street, Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province. The project started construction in December 2021, with a total investment of more than 540 billion VND, connecting Song Lo District, Vinh Phuc Province with Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province and about 10 km from Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway.

The bridge was built using the Extradosed balanced cantilever cable-stayed technology, one of the most modern and complex bridge construction technologies today. After more than 18 months of construction, the bridge is now nearly completed, about 5 months ahead of schedule.

The bridge has two piers located on the Lo River, which is the most difficult construction item. The river water is currently quite shallow so the bridge piers can be clearly seen.

The bridge has been paved with asphalt, has railings on both sides and an electric lighting system installed.

The bridge is over 500 m long, of which the main section is 290 m long, the approach section on Phu Tho province is over 70 m, the approach section on Vinh Phuc province is about 148 m. With the main bridge width of 19 m, the approach section of 16.5 m, when completed, Vinh Phu bridge will have 4 lanes.

There are still some expansion joints on the bridge deck waiting to be completed.

The entire base of the railing was painted. At the construction site, the machinery had been removed, leaving only about 20 workers.
Workers are completing the bridge abutment on the Song Lo district side.

Before Vinh Phu bridge was built, people from the two provinces crossed by Duc Bac ferry in Duc Bac commune, Song Lo district.

During rush hour, there are hundreds of workers from Vinh Phuc waiting to go to Phu Tho to work. The completed bridge will help people travel conveniently and trade goods between the two provinces.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan has been a ferry employee since 1997. He said that 6am is the busiest time for the ferry, with two trips every 40 minutes. Every day, the ferry runs from early morning to late evening, with about 27 trips. In the near future, when Vinh Phu Bridge is put into operation, Duc Bac ferry will stop.
