Phong Chau pontoon bridge temporarily suspended due to strong water flow

Colonel Tran Van Tuan, Brigade Commander of Brigade 249 ( Engineering Corps ) said that on the morning of June 11, due to the rapid increase in the flow velocity of the Red River at the Phong Chau pontoon bridge (Tam Nong, Phu Tho ), at 8:50 a.m. it reached 2.4 m/s (exceeding the safety level of the pontoon bridge), the unit reported to the Chief of the Engineering Command and urgently cut the pontoon bridge.

At exactly 9:00 a.m. the same day, the unit completed the emergency cutting of Phong Chau pontoon bridge, ensuring safety for people and equipment; at the same time, it notified the authorities, localities, and press and media agencies so that people would be aware and proactive in moving.

According to Colonel Tran Van Tuan, the emergency cutting of Phong Chau pontoon bridge was part of the plan and was coordinated with the authorities of Phu Tho province.

At 10:00, the water flow rate at the bridge was 2.85 m/s. The brigade is continuing to monitor. When the flow rate decreases, the unit will operate a ferry to take people across the river; when the flow rate drops below 2 m/s, the Phong Chau pontoon bridge will be reconnected.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the water level on the Red River in Phu Tho has increased by nearly 1 meter in the past 3 days (June 8-11), reaching a short-term peak of 13.6 meters and continuing to change slowly.
