Mohanad Ali of Iraq caused outrage when he kicked Chanathip in the leg in the final minutes of the match, sparking a conflict between the two teams. Many Thai and Iraqi players lost their tempers and clashed, creating an unnecessary brawl.
After the referee and coaching staff of both teams intervened, the heated tempers on the field were calmed down. According to Thai media, three Iraqi players, Yakob, Amir, and Sulaka, approached Chanathip to apologize for Ali's earlier unsportsmanlike conduct.

The Iraq Football Podcast also criticized Ali's brutal foul with a post stating: "A shock and hardly inexcusable, especially when this is just a friendly match. On behalf of the player, we apologize to Thailand."
Speaking after the match, Chanathip said: "In my career, I've never suffered such a strong collision. Luckily, it was only a muscle injury, no ligament damage, but I need a more thorough check-up. I was very angry at the time. This is a situation that shouldn't have happened on the field."
Thailand's coach Masatada Ishii also expressed his displeasure at his player being fouled: "The tackle was too rough and lacked sportsmanship . A professional player shouldn't behave like that."
Ali was also the player who scored the only goal that helped Iraq defeat Thailand 1-0 and win the King's Cup on September 7th.
