According to the Daily Mail , a part of MU players are "gradually losing faith in the tactical system" of the Portuguese strategist. Since coming to MU, Amorim has remained steadfast with the 3-4-2-1 formation that is closely associated with his football philosophy.
After the Manchester derby, the 39-year-old coach declared that he would rather be sacked than change his coaching style. However, this conservatism is causing cracks in the Old Trafford dressing room.
Sources say some players have never really felt comfortable operating in Amorim’s system, with captain Bruno Fernandes – who is often seen as the coach’s “right-hand man” – unhappy about being forced to play deeper in midfield.
This makes the situation even more tense in the context of MU having the worst start to a season in 33 years, only winning 4 points after 4 matches.
However, Amorim still receives support from the board. Daily Mail reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe - co-owner of MU - and senior officials at Old Trafford still stand by the Portuguese coach. However, if the situation does not improve soon, Amorim's future will be reconsidered.
MU will host Chelsea at Old Trafford in round 5 of the Premier League on September 20. The result of this match is considered an important measure for Amorim's future.
