Overseas Vietnamese midfielder Nguyen Hoang Nam Mi appeared in the afternoon training session of the Vietnamese women's team on May 6, attracting the attention of the media.

Coach Mai Duc Chung said: "I have met Nam Mi. I am very happy to have more people who want to contribute to the national team. I really hope that more overseas Vietnamese players with Vietnamese nationality will come back to contribute, helping to strengthen the team.

Nam Mi is currently waiting for Ho Chi Minh City Club to return. This player has about 4 training sessions to integrate, learn and evaluate more about his expertise. After that, Mi and Ho Chi Minh City Club will go to China to compete in the Asian tournament."

Regarding the use of overseas Vietnamese players, coach Mai Duc Chung said: "The Philippines and Thailand are very strong. Cambodia, Laos, and Malaysia are also actively calling overseas players back to show their ambition for women's football. We do not have that strength yet, but hopefully in the future there will be more overseas Vietnamese players returning to contribute to the country."

Regarding the training plan during this training session, Coach Mai Duc Chung said: "Early next week we will play a friendly match with Ho Chi Minh City Club and on May 16 we will play against Werder Bremen Club.

The Vietnamese women's team had their first training session on the afternoon of May 6.

We plan to call 35 players, but currently there are only 25, 10 are missing, including 8 players from Ho Chi Minh City Club and 2 players from the U19 team. There is no need to worry about the 8 players from Ho Chi Minh City not being called up to the national team. They have been focusing on the national team for many years, so they have a good grasp of the tactics and training style. Right at the club, the players also practice with high intensity to prepare for the AFC Champions League."

At the end of phase 1 of the first training session in 2025, the Vietnamese women's team will depart for Japan for training from June 8 to June 18. After this overseas training trip, the team will move to Viet Tri (Phu Tho) to continue training and compete in the 2026 Asian Women's Championship qualifiers, with Group E matches taking place here from June 29 to July 5.
