Seventy years have passed, but the Dien Bien Phu Victory has left behind many valuable lessons, not only in our nation's resistance war against the French, but also in the country's renewal process today. These include lessons about the brilliant leadership of the Party, unique military art, the importance of leveraging the people's support, the strength of national unity, and skillful foreign policy.

In Dien Bien province, the event was held at the Victory Monument on D1 Hill, with a stage designed with 56 stone pillars symbolizing the 56 days and nights of digging tunnels and sleeping in bunkers. The program featured many special artistic performances with heroic songs such as: "Uncle Ho is marching with us," "Hail to the Dien Bien Phu soldiers," "Artillery pulling chant," etc. It was a reunion with veterans who participated in the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, allowing historical witnesses to share unforgettable memories from the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.

In Hanoi, the event, held at the historic Ba Dinh Square, featured performances recreating the vibrant atmosphere of a resilient Hanoi, fighting amidst the flames of war to defend itself, with images of the resounding return of the National Guard to Hanoi, brimming with the fervor of resistance against French colonialism.

In Thanh Hoa, the event was held at Lam Son Square. Besides the grand and moving scenes vividly recreating the atmosphere of the front lines, the civilian laborers transporting food by bicycle, braving bombs and bullets to reach the battlefield and contributing to the victory at Dien Bien Phu, the audience also had the opportunity to meet historical witness Mr. Tran Khoi, former Political Commissar of the 101st Bicycle Transport Company in Thanh Hoa, who recounted the days of "digging tunnels in the mountains, sleeping in bunkers, enduring heavy rain, and eating dried rice rations." At that time, he was a 28-year-old young man who answered the call of the Fatherland, leaving behind his young wife and two children at home; his eldest son was only 4 years old, and his second daughter was only about 2 months old.

During the resistance war against French colonialism, especially the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, the Party Committee, army, and people of Thanh Hoa clearly demonstrated their crucial role as a strategic rear area. Despite the extremely difficult and deprived living conditions of the people, with the spirit of "the whole nation goes to war," and "fought to the death for the Fatherland," following the call of the Party and the Viet Lien Front, in three phases of supporting the campaign, the entire province mobilized 200,000 long-term and short-term laborers, over 3,500 bicycles, 1,126 wooden boats of various types, 31 automobiles, 180 ox carts, 42 pack horses, 3 elephants, and many other means of transport, providing over 4,500 tons of rice, 350 tons of food, 2,000 pigs, 350 buffaloes and cows, and hundreds of tons of various vegetables. The Thanh Hoa rear area mobilized its maximum human and material resources to ensure logistical support for the victory of the campaign.

During the historic days of the Dien Bien Phu campaign, despite the treacherous terrain and intense enemy attacks in the rear, the continuous stream of civilian laborers from western Thanh Hoa province, traversing forests, mountains, and passes, secretly delivered supplies safely. Amidst the bombs and bullets of those unforgettable days, Thanh Hoa province produced many heroic figures who contributed their manpower and resources to the Dien Bien Phu campaign: Comrade Dai Sy Trau, from Quang Xuong district, who consistently carried heavy baskets weighing 60kg each, leading the way in carrying supplies on foot; and the bicycle transport soldiers Cao Van Ty and Trinh Ngoc, from Thanh Hoa town, who achieved records carrying loads from 160kg to 195kg, and then over 300kg per trip. Trinh Dinh Bam, a farmer from Dinh Lien commune, Yen Dinh district, with his fervent patriotism, did not hesitate to dismantle his ancestral altar to make wheelbarrow wheels for transporting goods...

During his second visit to Thanh Hoa in June 1957, President Ho Chi Minh praised, "During the resistance war, the people of our province, all strata of society, showed unity and participated in the resistance. Now, wherever the Vietnamese language is spoken, the name Dien Bien Phu is also known. And wherever the name Dien Bien Phu is known, the people of Thanh Hoa also share in that honor."

In Kon Tum, the event, held at the Kon Klor communal house, featured a grand performance by the people carrying 140 torches, symbolizing the unity of the Party's will and the people's spirit in the resistance war, creating an epic atmosphere reminiscent of the Central Highlands.

The Ho Chi Minh City segment, held at the Thu Ngu Flagpole historical site, tells the story of the people and soldiers of Southern Vietnam sharing the burden of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield. Geographically, Southern Vietnam was furthest from the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, so its direct contribution in terms of manpower and materials might not have been as significant as other regions. However, at that time, based on the French colonialists' policy of dispersing forces on all fronts, the people of Southern Vietnam launched attacks on all three fronts: military, political, and troop mobilization... making a crucial contribution to the overall victory.
