Quang Ninh has strive to develop the economy , contributing to building a rich and strong homeland.
A typical example is veteran Nguyen Van Dan (Dong Trieu ward), a 1/4-class disabled veteran, suffering from Agent Orange. In 1972, at the age of 20, Mr. Dan enlisted in the army, fought in the Southern battlefield and was seriously injured in a battle in Cai Be district, Tien Giang province (now Dong Thap province). In 1979, Mr. Dan was discharged from the army with a disability rate of 81%, returning to his hometown in poor health, lacking capital, and lacking experience in economic development.
Not giving up on his fate, Mr. Dan worked hard to earn a living. In 2014, he and some other veterans established the 2/9 Dong Trieu Disabled Veterans Company Limited, operating in the fields of excavation, land leveling, transportation and production of purified water, creating stable jobs for many disabled veterans and their children.
In 2023, due to health conditions and production difficulties, he and his shareholders changed direction to establish Ngoc Chau A General Company Limited, specializing in the production of bottled purified water. As director, he focused on investing in modern equipment, improving production processes, and enhancing product quality. Currently, the company supplies about 3,000 bottles of purified water per month, with a revenue of nearly 2 billion VND/year, creating stable jobs for more than 10 workers.
In addition to production and business activities, Mr. Dan and his family also actively participate in social activities, contributing to new rural construction programs, supporting people in flood-affected areas, education encouragement funds, "Comradely Love" funds, giving gifts to poor students and providing free water to children in difficult circumstances.
Another shining example is veteran Luong Cong Thoan (Vang Danh ward), a 3/4-class disabled veteran. Mr. Thoan enlisted in 1974, fought in Truong Son and participated in the Vi Xuyen campaign (Ha Giang) in 1984. After retiring in 1999, he started his career as an auto repairman, then switched to animal husbandry and opened a garment factory.
In 2019, Mr. Thoan established Truong Phuc 979 Garment Company Limited with an investment capital of tens of billions of VND, an area of 1,000m². The enterprise produces an average of 150,000 products per month, achieving revenue of billions of VND/year, creating jobs for 30 workers, including many demobilized soldiers and 9 disabled people, with an income of 5-8 million VND/month. The company also supports free accommodation for workers in difficult circumstances.
Currently, the province has 174 small and medium enterprises, 27 cooperatives, 3 cooperative groups, 120 farms, 593 family farms and 1,309 production and business households owned by war veterans. Of these, 14 enterprises have a revenue of over 50 billion VND/year and 28 enterprises have a revenue of over 10 billion VND/year. These units have created jobs for over 16,000 workers, contributing positively to the development of the local economy.
The Provincial Veterans Business Association and the Veterans Association at all levels regularly support members to expand production and improve their lives. In addition, the association organizations also actively organize social security activities, visit and give nearly 2,500 gifts to policy families and Agent Orange victims (worth nearly 1.2 billion VND); build 17 new "Comradely Love" houses with a total cost of nearly 1.4 billion VND in 2025. Thanks to these efforts, up to now, the whole province has no poor war veteran households. The number of near-poor households is only 54 (accounting for 0.1%). The number of war veteran households with a good and rich standard of living is 33,325 households, accounting for 62.43% of the total number of members.
Chairman of the Provincial Association of War Veterans, Dam Huy Dac, shared: War veterans in Quang Ninh are not only historical witnesses, but also pioneers and role models in economic development, contributing to building an increasingly prosperous homeland. They are living proof of the spirit of overcoming difficulties, creativity and constant dedication of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in peacetime. War veterans in Quang Ninh continue to be a reliable support, actively contributing to economic development and social security in the locality.
