The new ticketing systems of both Man United and Chelsea suffered serious problems in the first round of the 2025-2026 Premier League season. This caused thousands of people to queue and risk missing the match.
Thousands of Manchester United fans were left stranded outside Old Trafford after a new ticketing system went down during the game against Arsenal. Images and videos of crowds jostling and queuing just minutes before kick-off were widely shared on social media, with many fans calling the situation a “disgrace”.
Earlier in March, Man United announced the implementation of a new ID verification system to prevent ticket scalping and ensure a safe stadium for fans.
However, the change appears to have had unintended consequences. On social network X, Daily Mail Sport reporter Riath Al-Samarrai wrote: "A lot of people will miss the kick-off at Old Trafford. The aisles are packed."
Another fan commented: "Man United's ticketing system is a disgrace. Thousands of fans are queuing at the box office because the new NFC (electronic ticket) tickets don't work at the turnstiles! Only 10 minutes to go and there are still long queues everywhere."

Chelsea fans were in a similar situation ahead of their match against Crystal Palace on the same day, with the club's newly introduced digital ticketing system experiencing problems, leaving fans unable to enter Stamford Bridge.
Videos on social media showed long queues of fans stuck outside the stadium before kick-off, sparking a backlash, with many criticising the way the club implemented the digital ticketing system.
Chelsea later released a statement acknowledging the incident and thanking fans for their patience.
Both Man United had disappointing opening matches of the new 2025-2026 Premier League season. The “Red Devils” were defeated by Arsenal right at Old Trafford, while Chelsea were held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace.
