Vietnam is home to major chip assembly plants, including Intel’s world- largest manufacturing facility. However, Vietnam is also making efforts to expand into design and even manufacturing as the world creates opportunities to develop this strategic industry.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will be in Vietnam next week to discuss boosting cooperation with local businesses.
Nvidia President and CEO Jensen Huang will meet with government representatives and local companies early next week to discuss ways to “foster the semiconductor industry” and develop “potential partnerships with local businesses,” Reuters reported.
Representatives of FPT, VinGroup, the parent company of electric carmaker VinFast, and state-owned Viettel said they would attend the upcoming meeting chaired by the Ministry of Planning and Investment , but declined to comment on any agreements that might be signed.
According to a document released by the White House last September, Nvidia - a company that produces AI chips and graphics processors, has partnered with leading Vietnamese technology companies to deploy AI in the cloud, automotive and healthcare industries.
Also at the event when US President Joe Biden visited Vietnam on the occasion of the two countries upgrading their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, Washington pledged to promote deeper cooperation between the two sides in the fields of semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
According to Boston Consulting Group, as of 2019, nearly 40% of global semiconductor ancillary manufacturing activities were in China, while in the US it was only 2%, and up to 27% was located in Taiwan (China).
