Cambodian police said six people were killed in a fire that broke out on the afternoon of July 1 at a nightclub under renovation in the capital Phnom Penh.
The fire broke out at 5pm on July 1 (local time) at a nightclub in the Tuol Kork district of Phnom Penh. Firefighters were deployed to the scene and extinguished the fire after several hours. Among the dead were two women. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
According to Cambodia's National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), in 2022, the country recorded a total of 454 fire incidents that killed 42 people and injured 55 others.
The most heartbreaking of these was the fire that broke out on December 28 at the Grand Diamond City Hotel and Casino in Poipet, a city bordering Thailand, killing 26 people. The cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit.
