According to the US press, Messi will activate the option to stay at Inter Miami for at least one more year until after the 2026 World Cup, right before the 2025 MLS season (American professional soccer league) kicks off at the end of February.
"So far, Messi's impact on the entire MLS has been huge. After just two years of his arrival, the MLS franchise value is now at an average of $721 million, up 6% from 2024. The total value of the 29 MLS teams is now $20.8 billion, including real estate and businesses related to the teams," Sportico announced on January 31.
Accordingly, in the top 10 most valuable MLS teams in 2025, there are currently 5 clubs in the top 1 billion USD. Inter Miami has risen from 3rd place to 2nd place, with continuous growth over the past 2 years to reach a total growth rate of up to 103%.
The team, chaired and co-owned by David Beckham, skyrocketed in value from $586 million (in 2022) to $1.02 billion in early 2024 thanks to the signing of Messi just a few months earlier. This increase continued, increasing by 17% by early 2025, to now stand at $1.19 billion.
With this value, Inter Miami is only behind Los Angeles FC with a value of 1.28 billion USD (up 11% compared to 2024). While LA Galaxy Club is ranked 3rd with 1.11 billion USD (up 13%).
Atlanta United, ranked 4th, is valued at $1.08 billion (up 3%), and is also the team with the biggest shopping spree in MLS, having just acquired star Miguel Almiron from Newcastle (England) for a transfer fee of $10 million plus $4 million in additional fees. The team ranked 5th on this list is New York City FC, valued at exactly $1 billion (up 19%, the highest increase).

Sportico said: "Inter Miami is very promising to be at the top of the list of "billion-dollar clubs" in MLS after 2025, thanks to many ambitious projects ahead such as the upcoming launch of a new stadium (early 2026), Messi's renewal and new contract signing. Revenue in 2025 is also expected to skyrocket, as the team will participate in the FIFA Club World Cup in June and have a second consecutive year participating in the CONCACAF Champions Cup...".
Messi and his teammates are in the preparation phase for the 2025 season. Since the beginning of the year, the Argentine star has always shown happiness and joy with Inter Miami under the leadership of new coach and close friend Javier Mascherano.
Inter Miami have won both of their matches on penalties, defeating Club America (Mexico) 3-2 and Universitario (Peru) 5-4, after draws of 2-2 and 0-0 in regular time. Their next match will be against Sporting San Miguelito of Panama at 5am on February 3.
