According to the 2019 Labor Code, employees are entitled to 11 public holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays with full pay. Specifically: New Year's Day (January 1st) - 1 day; Lunar New Year - 5 days; Hung Kings' Commemoration Day (March 10th of the Lunar Calendar) - 1 day; Victory Day (April 30th) - 1 day; International Labor Day (May 1st) - 1 day; National Day (September 2nd and one day immediately before or after).

If these holidays coincide with weekly rest days, employees are entitled to a compensatory day off on the following day. Annually, based on actual circumstances, the Prime Minister decides on the specific number of holidays as stipulated.

Foreign workers in Vietnam, in addition to the legally mandated holidays, are also entitled to one extra day off for their national Lunar New Year and one extra day off for their country's National Day.

The Ministry of Interior has announced the holiday schedule for New Year's Day 2026, Lunar New Year (Tet Nguyen Dan), National Day 2026, and other holidays throughout the year for officials, civil servants, and employees.

The first holiday of 2026 is New Year's Day. Officials, civil servants, and employees of state administrative agencies and public service units will have their working day swapped from Friday, January 2nd, 2026, to the weekly day off on Saturday, January 10th.

Therefore, during the New Year's holiday, civil servants and public employees will have 4 consecutive days off, from Thursday, January 1, 2026 to Sunday, January 4 (with a compensatory workday on Saturday, January 10).

After the New Year's Day holiday, workers will enter the longest holiday of the year, the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse), lasting 9 days, including 5 statutory holidays and 4 weekend days. The holiday period is from Saturday, February 14, 2026 (the 27th day of the 12th lunar month, Year of the Snake) to Sunday, February 22 (the 6th day of the 1st lunar month, Year of the Horse). This holiday period applies to civil servants and public employees.

For employees who are not civil servants or public officials, employers can choose the following options for the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday: One day off at the end of the Year of the Snake and four days off at the beginning of the Year of the Horse; or two days off at the end of the Year of the Snake and three days off at the beginning of the Year of the Horse; or three days off at the end of the Year of the Snake and two days off at the beginning of the Year of the Horse.

The third holiday in 2026 is Hung Kings Commemoration Day. In 2026, Hung Kings Commemoration Day falls on Sunday, April 26th, which is a regular weekend. Therefore, civil servants, public employees, and workers who do not work on Saturday and Sunday will have 3 consecutive days off due to the compensatory day off on Monday. Thus, the holiday period will be from Saturday, April 25th, 2026 to Monday, April 27th.

Also in April, workers have another holiday: the April 30th and May 1st holiday, lasting four days, consisting of two consecutive weekend days, from Thursday, April 30th to Sunday, May 3rd.

The final holiday in 2026 is National Day, a 5-day break including 2 official National Day days, 2 weekend days, and 1 day swapped with a weekend day. Accordingly, civil servants and public employees will be on holiday from Saturday, August 29, 2026, to Wednesday, September 2; swapped from Monday (August 31), a working day, to Saturday (August 22), a weekend day.

For employees in businesses, Wednesday, September 2nd is a day off, and they can choose to take one of two days off: Tuesday, September 1st or Thursday, September 3rd.

The Ministry of Interior notes that agencies and units implementing the holiday schedule should arrange and organize on-call departments according to regulations and work efficiently to ensure continuous work and good service to organizations and the public. This includes assigning officials and civil servants to be on duty to handle any unexpected or urgent matters that may arise during the holiday period as prescribed.

Agencies and units that do not follow a fixed Saturday and Sunday weekly holiday schedule will base their holiday arrangements on their specific programs and plans, in accordance with the law.

According to the 2019 Labor Code, employees working overtime on public holidays, Tet holidays, and paid days off will receive at least 300% of their regular hourly wage, in addition to their regular holiday pay for employees paid on a daily basis.
