Admire the 72m high Buddha statue with an elevator inside in Hanoi

Khai Nguyen Pagoda, formerly known as Co Lieu Tu, is commonly known as Cheo Pagoda, located in Tay Ninh village (Son Dong commune, Son Tay town, Hanoi), close to the historical site of Mang Son temple.

Since 2006, Khai Nguyen Pagoda has been restored by the People's Committee of Son Tay town. In particular, in 2015, the construction of the great Buddha statue began with a message for world peace. After 9 years, the statue has basically completed all items and officially welcomed visitors to worship.

The Buddha statue is about 72m high, recorded as the tallest in Southeast Asia, with a base of more than 1,200m2. The base is a giant lotus flower blooming with three layers of petals arranged alternately and evenly around the body of the statue, bearing the bold features of Vietnamese Buddhist culture.

The Buddha statue's hand is 9m long, the right hand is decorated with a Dharma wheel. In particular, the Buddha's White Mark (mark on the forehead) is made of a bright red monolithic stone. The left hand holds a lotus platform, representing the profound philosophies of Buddhism.

With its unique architecture and grand scale, Khai Nguyen Pagoda has become an unmissable destination for tourists and locals. Not only is it a place for people to visit and pray for blessings, it is also a place to hold many meaningful Buddhist activities.

"Not only do people come to the pagoda to have fun and pray for peace, but every year in the summer, the pagoda often organizes a summer retreat that attracts a large number of Buddhist monks and nuns as well as people from everywhere," said Ms. Dang Hoang Dung (residing in Son Tay town).

The great statue was built to convey the message of world peace, praying for national prosperity, world peace, happiness for all beings, and the prosperity of Buddhism...

At the base of each door is attached the symbol of Garuda or Golden Eagle, a sacred bird in Hinduism and influenced by Buddhism.

Inside the great Buddha statue at Khai Nguyen Pagoda is a heart carved from a single block of Canadian Nephine jade, weighing more than 1 ton.

In addition, there are nearly 2,000 large and small statues displayed here for visitors to visit and worship Buddha.

The statue is designed with 16 floors, of which 12 floors have elevators and stairs. Each floor is decorated in a separate worship style.
