Last night, December 3, at the Multi-purpose Gymnasium of Hai Phong City Sports Complex, the opening ceremony of the 17th City Phu Dong Sports Festival, 2023-2024 school year, took place with the theme "Youth conquers the power of knowledge". The 17th Hai Phong City Phu Dong Sports Festival is the largest sports festival for students in the city to continue to maintain and promote the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho", at the same time improve health, develop physical fitness, and contribute to comprehensiveeducation for students.

In recent times, the Department of Education and Training of Hai Phong and all levels and sectors have always paid attention to, focused on and developed physical education and sports in schools. Up to now, 100% of schools in the city have implemented the formal physical education program according to regulations; over 95% of schools have extracurricular physical education and sports activities. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam emphasized that over the years, Hai Phong City has had many policies and strategies to promote and develop the sports movement, promote the positive effects of sports in improving health; contribute to enriching the spiritual and cultural life, building a healthy lifestyle for the people, and repelling social evils.
In particular, the Phu Dong Sports Festival is the pinnacle of the sports training movement for high school students. This is also an opportunity to evaluate the physical education and sports work in high schools. Through the Sports Festival, the city discovers and selects sports talents to nurture and train to become the next generation of athletes, creating the core for the city team to participate in the 10th National Phu Dong Sports Festival in 2024 held in Hai Phong.
On behalf of the city's leaders, Mr. Nam suggested that the Department of Education and Training and schools in the city continue to pay more attention to physical education and school sports.
The 2023 Hai Phong City Phu Dong Sports Festival has 9 competition events, including: Athletics, table tennis, shuttlecock, Karate, swimming, badminton, Taekwondo, chess and aerobics with the participation of 2,932 athletes from educational institutions in the city.
The competition period lasts from 1-12.12.2023.
