The Maitreya Buddha statue on top of Ba Den Mountain was consecrated by Tay Ninh province on top of Ba Den Mountain on January 28.
The opening ceremony took place on the top of Ba Den Mountain, presided over by Most Venerable Thich Niem Thoi - Head of the Tay Ninh Provincial Buddhist Executive Committee. The event was also attended by central leaders, the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, leaders of Tay Ninh province and other provinces and cities.
This statue is made from 6,688 sandstone pieces inspired by terraced fields. The statue is carved in a sitting position on a flowing waterfall with its face facing the east where the sun rises.

Speaking at the ceremony, Most Venerable Elder Vien Minh - Deputy Dharma Master of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Council - shared: "The Maitreya Buddha statue symbolizes the virtue of joy and forgiveness and is the future Buddha, symbolizing the prosperity and peace of our country's future."

Mr. Vo Duc Trong - Vice Chairman of Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee - said: "With the world's largest sandstone Maitreya Buddha statue, Sun Group has created a new symbol, a new stature for Tay Ninh tourism.
We expect the Maitreya Buddha statue to create a breakthrough for local tourism, bringing Tay Ninh - a land with many cultural, religious and historical features - to become a pilgrimage destination attracting domestic and international tourists."
Many solemn rituals were held at the opening ceremony of the Maitreya Buddha statue such as chanting Buddha's name to pray for blessings, purifying the statue, chanting sutras to bless...
In particular, more than 20,000 lanterns with wishes written by locals and tourists were lit up at the opening ceremony, creating an unprecedented large-scale lantern ceremony at Ba Den Mountain.
The waterfall system combined with fountains operating with modern technology applied for the first time in Vietnam, along with unique performances by actors, also created a magnificent and artistic water music exhibition.
Previously, on January 27, the Charity Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Buddhist Sangha and the Ba Den Mountain tourist area presented 500 Tet gifts to the poor in the communes and wards surrounding Ba Den Mountain.
On this occasion, thousands of people took the cable car to the top of Ba Den Mountain to see the Maitreya Buddha statue with their own eyes.
This is the largest sandstone statue in the world, 36m high, 45m wide, 4,651m2 surface area, 5,112 tons in weight.
In the evening, the Maitreya Buddha statue is shimmering with the lighting system combined with the fountain.
The statue is located at an altitude of 900m on the top of Ba Den mountain.
