On the evening of May 14, 16-year-old NHS was running on the street when a dog belonging to Mr. NVM (Suoi Soc Hamlet, Xuan My Commune, Cam My District) bit his leg. At that time, the dog was not muzzled when on the street and there was no one to look after it.
The next day, S. was taken by her family to get a rabies vaccine.
After the incident, the District Animal Husbandry and Aquaculture Station coordinated with the People's Committee of Xuan My Commune to work with the dog owner, Mr. M. Thereby, it was determined that the dog that bit the person was healthy but had not been vaccinated against rabies, and the dog owner did not take safety measures when letting the dog roam free. Mr. M.'s family raised a total of 6 dogs, but 4 of them had not been vaccinated against rabies.
The authorities have asked the dog owner to vaccinate the four unvaccinated dogs against rabies. The dog owner has pledged not to let the dogs roam free or to muzzle them when they are let out. The dog that bit S. is being quarantined and monitored for 14 days.
The Cam My District Animal Husbandry and Aquaculture Station determined that the incident of a dog biting a person in Suoi Soc Hamlet was dangerous, with a potential risk of rabies infection. Measures need to be taken to handle and disseminate information to raise people's awareness and responsibility, and avoid similar incidents. The Station requested the People's Committee of Xuan My Commune to strengthen the direction of inspection and handling of cases of dogs roaming freely and not vaccinated against rabies in the area.
