Welcoming the delegation and reporting to the National Assembly Chairman, Ambassador Mai Phan Dung - Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam in Geneva stated: The National Assembly Chairman's participation in the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments in Geneva is of great significance. This is the most important parliamentary foreign affairs forum globally, gathering the largest number of parliamentary leaders from all continents, held every 5 years and rotating only at the three largest multilateral centers in the world : New York, Vienna and Geneva.

Informing the National Assembly Chairman about the situation of the Vietnamese community in Switzerland, Ambassador Mai Phan Dung said: The Vietnamese community in Switzerland has about 10,000 people in 26 states. The community is always patriotic, united, preserves national identity and has a spirit of turning towards the homeland. They have actively contributed to the country through campaigns to support vaccines, prevent Covid-19, flood relief, and volunteer activities.

In addition, the Swiss community has many successful individuals in their work, who are doctors, professors, PhDs, working at large Swiss agencies. Besides, there is also a part of the community that are Vietnamese experts and intellectuals working at international organizations in Geneva.
At the meeting, the National Assembly Chairman listened to the opinions and recommendations of community representatives and young intellectuals; through which, the community expressed their joy at the country's development steps.

According to the general assessment of officials and employees of Vietnamese representative agencies and the Vietnamese community in Switzerland, in recent years, Vietnam has been a model of sustainable and successful socio-economic development with a proactive foreign policy of international integration, multilateralization, diversification, and peace, especially in the current volatile world context.

Besides Geneva, Vietnamese is recognized as the language of instruction in the general education system in Zurich.
Representatives of the people expressed their gratitude to the National Assembly for promptly amending relevant laws, creating a favorable corridor for overseas Vietnamese, and suggested that the process of granting citizen identification cards and electronic passports (with chips) for overseas Vietnamese will be accelerated in the coming time, helping people with convenience in civil activities, paperwork, investment, and domestic travel.
