Defeating Thailand, Vietnamese women's sepak takraw won the world championship for the third time

The final match of the 2025 World Sepak Takraw Championship's Quadrangular Team will be a clash between the Vietnamese and Thai women's teams. The two teams are considered to be on equal footing, with Thailand having the advantage of playing at home.

On the afternoon of July 27, in the final match of the 2025 Sepak Takraw World Championship at the Central Hatyai shopping mall gymnasium in Thailand, the Vietnamese women's team won the 4-a-side event after defeating Thailand 2-1.

This is the third time the Vietnamese women's team has won the world championship in this event, after winning the championship in 2022 and 2023.

After losing 12-15 in the first round, the Vietnamese team made a strong breakthrough, winning 15-8 and 15-7 in the next two rounds.

The deciding point came from Wiphada Chitphuan's serve that sent Thailand losing the world title to Vietnam, ending an emotional match.

The Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team excelled in defeating host Thailand in the final.

Previously, Thailand was also Vietnam's opponent in the final match of the 3-person women's team event, however, the Vietnamese girls could not overcome the host team and had to accept the silver medal.

The Sepak Takraw World Championship takes place annually in Thailand and this year is the 38th time it has been held, attracting a large audience.

In March this year, at the 2025 World Cup, the Vietnamese sepak takraw team competed against Thailand and won 2-1 in the women's 4-person team final.

Thus, in both encounters at the world-level Sepak Takraw tournament, the Vietnamese Sepak Takraw team defeated the Thai team in the 4-person women's team event.
