The final round of the first National Artificial Intelligence Olympiad for Students in 2025 (VOAI 2025) was held at the University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi on June 1.

The final round is a competition between the 99 best students in the preliminary round taking place on May 11. Candidates will take a 6-hour practical exam from 9am to 3pm on June 1, with the requirement to perform 2 exams in computer vision and natural language processing, using machine learning models according to the practical exam content guidelines of the International Olympiad on AI 2025 (IOAI 2025).

According to the representative of the Organizing Committee, up to now, the preparation of computers and technical equipment to meet the requirements of the exam and the work of judges, supervisors, and volunteer students for the VOAI 2025 final round has been completed.

The exam platform on FPT Smart Cloud is built by a team of experts. Candidates will be given their own accounts using GPUs and tools, libraries, and data provided by the Organizing Committee. The platform integrates the VNOJ submission system and scoring software according to the scoring method/paper announced by IOAI 2025.

In particular, to ensure professional quality, the Question Board, the Expert Council, and the Board of Examiners were established with the participation of experienced AI experts, most of whom are between the ages of 25 and 35 and are national and international excellent students who are teaching, researching, and working in Vietnam. The Board of Examiners and the Question Board work confidentially and in isolation according to the regulations on exam work based on the National Excellent Student Exam Regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training .

The results of the VOAI 2025 final exam will be sent to the Ministry of Education and Training to propose rewards for outstanding students. From these results, the Organizing Committee will also propose to the Ministry of Education and Training a list of students with high results in VOAI 2025 to select a Vietnamese student team to attend IOAI 2025 in Beijing, China in August 2025.

VOAI is organized to promote the movement of learning, creative research, improving collective working skills, and international integration of students in the field of AI in high schools nationwide. The competition contributes to discovering and encouraging young talents in the field of AI, in the spirit of Resolution 57 dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.

Launched in April 2025, VOAI 2025 has nearly 150 high school students nationwide who meet the AI ​​competency standards to participate in the preliminary round. According to the regulations, most of the students who registered to participate have won high prizes in national and provincial competitions for excellent students in Information Technology, the candidates have won prizes and participated in national and provincial AI competitions, and some students have achieved high results in science and technology innovation competitions at all levels.

Right from the preliminary round, to ensure transparency and not use AI support via the Internet, candidates took the test in the form of multiple choice on the afternoon of May 11 at 5 centralized testing locations at universities in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho, and Da Lat. Also built on the international IOAI program, the VOAI 2025 preliminary round exam has 8 test codes with 100 multiple choice questions, focusing on 3 areas including machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing.

The Vietnamese student delegation participating in the 2024 International AI Olympiad won 1 Silver medal and 1 Bronze medal. In particular, the Blue Dynamic team from the Gifted High School of Ho Chi Minh City National University won a Silver medal and the AMS-1 team from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted brought home a Bronze medal for the Vietnamese delegation.
