In the early days of 2024, the construction site of the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao expressway project was bustling with activity, ready for its opening on April 30th, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Khanh Hoa province. A crucial component of this project is the tunnel through Vung Mountain.

Inside Vung Mountain Tunnel
One of the most important components of the project is the Vung Mountain Tunnel, which is 2.2km long and consists of two tunnel tubes. Each tunnel tube has 3 lanes, a width of 14m, and was completed in August 2023.

At the northern tunnel section, excavation work has reached 100%, tunnel lining concrete is 95% complete, and road surface concrete is over 80% complete. Currently, the construction unit is finalizing the tunnel lining and road surface concrete and proceeding with the installation of equipment systems inside the tunnel such as ventilation, lighting, and fire protection systems.
Both ends of the tunnel have been paved with asphalt, and the project operator's office at the tunnel entrance facing Binh Thuan has been constructed.

In the southern tunnel section, encountering weak geological zones, different from the approved technical design documents, has affected the tunnel excavation progress. Currently, the construction unit has overcome the difficulties with technical measures and simultaneously accelerated construction to 3 shifts per day and night to compensate for the delay, striving to complete the project by March 30th (one month ahead of schedule).

Representatives from Project Management Board 85 - Ministry of Transport said that the construction items on the main route are on track to open the bridge and road sections by the end of December 2023.
