On the morning of January 2, President Luong Cuong presented decisions to confer the title of Ambassador to officials and civil servants of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2024. President Luong Cuong presented decisions to confer the title of Ambassador to: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Thanh Binh; Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai; Deputy Director, Deputy Chief of Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ngo Toan Thang; Mr. Nguyen Vu Tung, Senior Lecturer, Diplomatic Academy. The title of Ambassador is the most noble diplomatic title among the diplomatic titles prescribed in the Ordinance on Diplomatic Titles and Ranks in 1995. This is a state title conferred on civil servants in the diplomatic sector to serve foreign affairs work at home and abroad.

The conferment of the title of Ambassador, along with other diplomatic titles, has contributed to the gradual standardization of the Vietnamese diplomatic staff in accordance with international law and practice, and at the same time demonstrated the Party and State's recognition of the contributions of the officials conferred the title of Ambassador to the cause of national construction and defense in general and foreign affairs in particular.The President once again congratulated the Ambassadors who had just received the Decision on conferring the title of Ambassador; at the same time, he advised the Ambassadors to continue to promote their roles and actively contribute to the common tasks of foreign affairs in 2025 as well as in the coming time, continuing to contribute to consolidating the favorable foreign affairs situation, positioning Vietnam in the flow of the times, promoting national interests, meeting the requirements of the cause of national construction and defense.
The Ordinance on the system of diplomatic ranks and levels in Vietnam stipulates as follows: Senior diplomatic ranks include: Ambassador rank; Minister rank; Counselor rank. Intermediate diplomatic ranks include: First Secretary rank; Second Secretary rank. Primary diplomatic ranks include: Third Secretary rank; Attaché rank. Civil servants working in the diplomatic sector who meet all political, ethical, professional, diplomatic and operational standards in the field of foreign affairs shall be considered for diplomatic ranks and assigned to a diplomatic rank according to regulations.
