Tourists bathing at Bo Ghe waterfall (Phu Loc district)

In the tourist season of waterfalls

Entering May, the hot summer weather makes many locals and tourists seek out tourist attractions such as streams and waterfalls. In Phu Loc district, many tourist attractions such as Khe Su stream (Loc Tri commune), Mo stream (Lang Co town), Thac Do stream (Lang Co town), Tien stream (Loc Thuy commune) ... attract a lot of visitors every afternoon.

A representative of the Department of Culture, Science and Information of Phu Loc district said that on average, each weekend, the above waterfalls attract more than 3,000 people and tourists to experience the activities at the waterfalls every day. Other waterfalls also welcome quite a lot of visitors, mainly domestic tourists.

Going up to the mountainous region of A Luoi, although the geographical distance is quite far, visitors still love to visit the eco-tourism spots and waterfalls here. Since the beginning of the year, there have been about 38,000 visitors to A Luoi, most of whom have come to the eco-tourism spots and waterfalls. The combination of the experience of bathing in waterfalls and tourism activities associated with the culture of ethnic minorities has become an attractive destination to attract visitors. Chau Viet Quang, a tourist from Khanh Hoa, shared: "This summer, we experienced waterfall tourism in this highland area of Hue, it was very interesting, not only to cool off on a hot summer day but also to feel many good things about the nature, people and culture here".

Mr. Hoang Thanh Duy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of A Nor Community Ecotourism Cooperative (Hong Kim Commune, A Luoi District) shared that every weekend, about 350 - 500 visitors come to A Nor waterfall to bathe, enjoy cuisine and participate in fun activities and experiences here. Since the beginning of the year, this tourist destination has repaired and renovated 13 camps, added a restaurant and a coffee shop for visitors. The service of washing hair in the stream with mountain herbs is also a favorite experience for visitors.

In A Roang commune, many tourist groups or groups also come here to experience 2 days 1 night with many tourist activities. Mr. Vien Dang Phu, a tourism worker here, said: “Visitors love to bathe in streams, waterfalls, pick wild vegetables along the streams, and catch fish. From sleeping nets, A Roang people can let tourists experience using them instead of nets to catch fish in calm waters or small streams around the village. 2 people hold the 4 corners, the others chase the fish into the net. It is a rustic experience but tourists really like it.”

Safety first

According to the representative of the Department of Tourism, in the summer, the demand of people and tourists to visit waterfall tourist spots increases. Therefore, in addition to investing in products and services, ensuring the safety of tourists is extremely important. For tourists who go to waterfalls for the first time, they are likely to have unexpected accidents. In case of carelessness, when stepping over rocks, it is easy to slip and fall; or because new visitors to the stream do not have time to rest before going down to bathe, it will cause heat shock, because the water in the stream is often very cold. These are the two basic causes leading to drowning and unfortunate accidents at waterfall bathing spots.

To ensure the safety of tourists, in addition to coordinating inspections at tourist sites, the Department of Tourism also recommends that localities implement safety measures during the waterfall tourism season. Every year, the Department of Tourism sends documents to districts, towns and tourist sites to strengthen the implementation of prevention and control of injuries and drowning. In addition, it focuses on propaganda and reminders on drowning prevention combined with inspections and handling of violations at tourist sites. In addition, it is also necessary to have a proactive role and awareness of ensuring safety for businesses and tourists.

Ms. Le Thi Them, Head of the Department of Culture, Science and Information of A Luoi district, said that before the summer tourist season, the unit had sent an official dispatch requesting the People's Committees of communes and towns to direct the management units of tourist areas, spots, and tourist service establishments in the locality to strictly implement regulations on ensuring hygiene, environment, food safety, fire and explosion prevention, and supplement rescue equipment according to regulations to ensure safety for people and tourists. Seriously publicly post service prices, sell at the correct listed price for products and services serving the needs of entertainment, shopping, sightseeing, experience and culinary enjoyment of tourists. In addition to providing life jackets for tourists, the waterfall tourist spots also install danger warning signs, stretch ropes on both sides of the stream for visitors to hold on to, in case of drowning.

Summer also often has thunderstorms with thunder and lightning. When seeing phenomena that signal dangerous weather, tourist destinations also warn, remind, and guide people and tourists to move away from dangerous places or pay attention to safety measures.

In addition, before entering the peak season of waterfall tourism, tourist destinations also pay attention to training skills for staff, fully equipping equipment and means to meet all rescue conditions. Tourist destinations also arrange forces or have self-management teams on duty to monitor rescue, remind people and tourists to pay attention to slippery spots, not to swim in dangerous deep areas and ensure rules when visitors participate in playing in streams and waterfalls.

The tourism industry and local authorities also recommend that residents and tourists should be cautious at spontaneous waterfall tourist spots. Although some spots may have beautiful scenery, at spontaneous tourist spots, in addition to the untested tourism environment, the infrastructure and tourist facilities are still rudimentary, lacking signs, may be far from residential areas, have weak phone signals, etc., so the risk of insecurity is higher.
