Ninh Son is the locality with the largest sugarcane growing area in our province; this is also the main sugarcane material area of Bien Hoa - Phan Rang Sugar Joint Stock Company. However, in recent years, the sugarcane industry has always faced many difficulties and challenges due to the impact of market developments, unusual weather and climate... causing significant impacts on people's production activities. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Viet, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Bien Hoa - Phan Rang Sugar Joint Stock Company, said: Before each planting season, the company always proactively coordinates with localities to review areas that can be planted with sugarcane, and implement support programs for farmers. Although the investment cost is relatively large, the company still determines this as a long-term orientation, aiming to promote the growth of the domestic sugarcane industry as well as increase profits for growers.
Ninh Son farmers harvest sugarcane in the 2023-2024 crop year.
In the 2023-2024 sugarcane crop, Bien Hoa - Phan Rang Sugar Joint Stock Company signed contracts with people to grow over 2,400 hectares of sugarcane. Accordingly, to encourage people to grow sugarcane, the company has implemented a policy to support conversion from short-term crops and vacant land, with a support level of 1.5 million VND/ha; perennial crops and wet rice are supported with 5 million VND/ha. In particular, through the policy of increasing sugarcane productivity, the company has invested in supporting capital, materials, and mechanization services to serve synchronous cultivation from planting, care to harvest; implementing technical solutions to respond to climate change through sugarcane irrigation, moisture-retaining gel, underground plowing, and reasonable organic fertilizer application; along with that, committing to insure the minimum sugarcane purchase price of 1 million VND/ton for sugarcane with 10 sugar content in the field... From the policies proposed by the company, farmers can rest assured to stick to the land for production. Mr. Tran Van Ton, Trieu Phong village, Quang Son commune, shared: In the 2023-2024 sugarcane crop, my family planted more than 5 hectares of K95-84 sugarcane. The company sent technical staff to the fields to guide farmers throughout the growth process of the sugarcane, giving an average yield of 75-80 tons/ha. After deducting material costs and transportation costs, the family made a profit of about 25 million VND/ha. The company's support policies in recent times have created confidence for local farmers to be more attached to sugarcane, and large-scale production linkages are constantly being expanded.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Viet added: In line with the spirit of Directive No. 28/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on implementing solutions to develop the Vietnamese sugar industry in the new situation, the company continues to maintain support policies for each crop year, especially researching new varieties and promoting the application of high technology in intensive farming in production. In addition, it is proposed that the province pay attention to allocating capital sources and supporting investment interest rates to support the development of mechanization in production; investing in irrigation systems, traffic infrastructure... In the immediate future, in the 2024-2025 sugarcane crop year, the company will focus on investing in supporting farmers to form and develop raw material areas of 2,400-2,700 hectares, striving for an average yield of 75 tons/ha, meeting the planned sugarcane pressing output.
