Việt NamViệt Nam29/05/2024

Bringing books to the grassroots, to remote areas through mobile libraries, building community bookcase models, green libraries... These are good ways to form "intellectual houses" to bring books to readers, help to arouse love for books and reading culture, bring knowledge to everyone and build a learning community.

Modern life with technological devices helps users connect quickly, access multi-dimensional information and many attractive ways of entertainment, especially the great influence of social networks makes reading books become distant, no longer a daily habit. Raising public awareness of the value of books and reading, in recent years, many practical models and activities have been organized in the province, especially in schools with the aim of arousing a passion for reading in the community.

The active activities of the Provincial Library, bringing books to readers at the grassroots level, especially in remote areas, schools in mountainous border areas are very meaningful activities, helping readers access diverse and rich information resources.

Ms. Luu Thi Hai Anh, Deputy Director in charge of the Provincial Library, said: In recent times, the Provincial Library has constantly innovated its service to readers, supplemented new sources of books for the library, regularly rotated books for district libraries, public book stations, supported the construction of community bookcases, "intellectual houses" for districts and cities. In particular, it has maintained activities to serve grassroots readers, mobile libraries, and organized reading festivals at schools and units in the province to contribute to arousing the love of books and spreading the reading culture in the community.

In 2017, the mobile library model managed by the Provincial Library began to be deployed. The vehicle is uniquely designed, equipped with a book library with the capacity to store over 3,000 books, a computer system connected to the internet, library management software, seats, a 3-way open body... that can move to many locations, especially remote communes, highlands, and border areas to serve readers. Currently, the mobile library model is still being maintained effectively with a frequency of more than 50 trips/year, traveling to all districts and highland schools with a warehouse of nearly 19,000 books with diverse and rich content, suitable for many readers.

Experiencing reading books at the mobile library serving readers in Van Ho district, Lo Thi Phuong Vy, grade 6, Van Ho Secondary School, excitedly said: The first time reading books at the mobile library, I found it very interesting and exciting. The library has many good books, suitable for ages and interests. My friends and I invited each other to come to borrow books, read books all afternoon at the mobile library and were enthusiastically guided by the managers here to choose books, encouraged us to read books to update more useful knowledge from books.

In Son La city, with the aim of creating a free reading ecosystem in schools and residential areas, the “Intelligence House” model has been deployed in communes and wards. To date, 32 “Intelligence Houses” have been launched, each model maintains thousands of good and diverse books, meeting the diverse needs of readers. This is also a practical activity for the city to maintain its title and determination to win the UNESCO “Global Learning City” award.

Mr. Tran Cong Chinh, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, informed: The City is continuing to encourage localities to deploy the "Intelligence House" model suitable to the conditions of each group and village. Strive to have 100% of the City's groups and villages have the "Intelligence House" model by the end of 2024, creating a good learning environment and opportunities, free of charge, contributing to building a sustainable society.

Many localities in the province have also increased activities to encourage the spirit of reading in the community. Many community bookcase models have been built in residential areas and schools in the form of regular voluntary donations to continuously add new books. In addition, the province is currently maintaining more than 200 law bookcases in agencies, units, armed forces, communes in Region III, and border areas, providing useful books, contributing to the dissemination of the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's legal policies to grassroots cadres and people.

Along with that, the whole province also has 10 district-level libraries and 47 public book stations, the book warehouse system is regularly rotated and renewed, providing readers with a useful source of information, and are reliable reading addresses for the people.

With good models and practical activities, the propaganda about the value of books and reading culture has been and is receiving increasing attention from all levels, sectors, localities, and schools. Good and useful books from the Provincial Library are brought closer to readers, helping to arouse passion and reading habits, build a reading movement in all generations, and spread reading culture in the community.
