Electronic cigarettes are devices that mimic the shape and function of traditional cigarettes. But unlike regular cigarettes, electronic cigarettes do not produce smoke but create a vapor that tastes and feels like real cigarettes.
E-cigarette vapor contains fewer harmful chemicals, at lower concentrations than cigarette smoke, but may contain harmful chemicals not found in cigarette smoke. Nicotine is toxic and highly addictive.
Young people are particularly vulnerable to addiction, and most (90%) smokers start before age 18. Among first-time users, 32% of those who try nicotine later become addicted.
