Never liked golf.

On November 18, in Hanoi , Golf Academy 72+ organized a workshop "Improving the quality of Vietnamese golf training", with the participation of more than 70 guests and especially coaches and athletes - those who have made the success of Vietnamese golf in 2023.

At the conference, the success of the phenomenon Nguyen Anh Minh (born in 2007) was given special attention and became an important topic. From Anh Minh's case, the conference participants discussed thoroughly to find the most optimal formula for the development of high-performance golf in Vietnam in the future.

For the first time, Mr. Nguyen Dang Son - golfer Nguyen Anh Minh's father shared the difficulties and expectations in his son's passion journey. Mr. Son also expressed his gratitude to the teachers, especially Coach Nguyen Thai Duong and Golf Academy 72+ for accompanying Anh Minh and his family on the journey for nearly 10 years.

"At first, Minh did not like golf at all. By chance, while out with his father, Minh tried playing and had a very good first shot. After 8-9 months of playing with his father, Minh expressed a special interest in golf. Minh proactively asked his father to let him practice. I decided to help my son pursue his passion," Mr. Son revealed.

Then family opposed

Mr. Nguyen Dang Son continued: "At first, the decision of the father and son met with opposition from the family because no one in the family was into sports . But I firmly supported my son. In November 2015, Minh played his first golf match with a club borrowed from a neighbor. After 3 months, Minh had his first set of Callaway clubs in his life. The joy of having new clubs made him hug the whole set to bed.

The father and son learned to play together for a while, then decided to go to school with a professional teacher. In the period of 2017 - 2018, Anh Minh really showed his passion for golf. Eating and sleeping on the golf course with Hanoi Golf Academy. My family created the best conditions, moving the house near the golf course to make it convenient for my son to study every day," Mr. Nguyen Dang Son shared.

Since meeting Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong in 2019, a new chapter and new beginnings have opened up for Minh. In addition to the efforts of his family, there is also the effort of Golf Academy 72+ in Anh Minh's initial success.

Anh Minh is a special talent.

Success with young golf requires the companionship of family and teacher for a long enough time. In which, the teacher is the first door that opens the world of golf for children. Golf builds a very good personality for Anh Minh. Golf brings honesty, surpassing oneself. Parents' expectations when their children compete also come from love. No pressure does not create anything, children must accept pressure.

Mr. Minh said: "No matter where I compete or what achievements I get, as soon as I get back to Hanoi, on Monday I will go to Golf Academy 72+ to study with Mr. Duong. In addition to practicing techniques at the practice field, he also often takes me and other friends to the field to practice real-life strategies and psychology."

Received a great scholarship

At the conference, Head Coach of the Vietnam Golf Team Nguyen Thai Duong, who is also Head Coach of the 72+ Golf Academy, directly presented on the role of coaches in the development of Vietnamese golf.

Head Coach Thai Duong presents the core criteria of a good coach and methods to improve the level and quality of coaches. Through typical examples such as Nguyen Anh Minh, Golf Academy 72+ and Coach Nguyen Thai Duong want to share experiences in developing and nurturing young talents, as well as methods for training and developing a team of coaches to keep up with the development of world golf.

72+ Golf Academy has announced the establishment of the 72+ Young Talent Scholarship Fund. 72+ Golf Academy will support free training for young people with potential, determination and goals to pursue professional golf and whose families need support for training tuition.

Anh Minh is also the first person to receive this scholarship since March 2022 with a value of 200 million VND/year. At the conference, Anh Minh received a scholarship worth 1.6 billion VND awarded by Coach Nguyen Thai Duong and Golf Academy 72+. This scholarship will be guaranteed to be awarded to Anh Minh until Minh finishes university, expected in 2029.

Outstanding achievements of Anh Minh

Nguyen Anh Minh won the men's championship of the 2022 national golf championship and became the champion with the best score in the 17-year history of the national golf championship.

Champion of the Asian Amateur Championship in Thailand in 2022. Champion of 2 major golf tournaments Tien Phong Golf Championship 2021, champion of the Bamboo Airways Golf Tournament 2021 - Flight to the Top.

At the Lexus Challenge 2022, for the first time, a Vietnamese amateur golfer won a domestic professional tournament. Anh Minh also won the title of "Best Amateur Golfer of the Tournament" when he won the Lexus Challenge championship and the title of Best Low Amateur of the season.

Nguyen Anh Minh made history by becoming the first Vietnamese golfer to win the 2023 Faldo Series Asia Final.
