For Vietnam to be able to host the Olympics and World Cup

On October 19, General Secretary To Lam and leaders of the Party and State attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the PVF Stadium with a capacity of 60,000 seats. The cultural and sports facility belongs to the PVF Youth Football Training Center, in Nghia Tru Commune, Hung Yen Province, with the Ministry of Public Security as the investor and Vinhomes Joint Stock Company under Vingroup as the general contractor.

The PVF Stadium construction project is an important step to elevate Vietnamese sports , aiming to organize many large-scale international events such as the Olympics or ASIAD.

WORLD CLASS STADIUM

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of PVF Stadium witnessed a historic milestone. For the first time, Vietnam has a football field with a capacity of 60,000 seats, with a giant dome design that can be opened and closed completely in just 12 - 20 minutes, a technology applied for the first time in Vietnam. The modern automatic opening and closing dome is referenced from the model and technology of AT&T Stadium (USA), the stadium with the largest opening and closing roof in the world today.

The roof uses advanced PTFE material, which is heat-resistant, UV-resistant and noise-reducing, keeping the interior space cool, saving energy and maintaining outstanding durability over time. The field surface uses hybrid modular grass technology - a combination of natural grass and artificial fibers, helping to increase durability, drain water quickly, withstand heavy loads, and facilitate maintenance (each grass panel can be disassembled independently, easily replaced or moved, helping the field's function to flexibly convert for activities from professional sports competitions to national and international cultural and social events), along with modern rooms and LED screens, PVF field is a historic project of Vietnamese sports.

General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security, spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony: "The project is a multi-purpose complex, including the main stadium, auxiliary training areas, rehabilitation center, entertainment, service, commercial and entertainment areas, providing public sports facilities, creating a healthy playground for all ages; a place to organize top sports matches, an address for people to have the opportunity to participate in physical activities and improve their health."

A stepping stone to raise Vietnam's status

One of the reasons why Vietnamese sports have difficulty breaking through in the international arena is the lack of training and competition facilities, even in big cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. In Hanoi, My Dinh Stadium has degraded in terms of grass quality, along with auxiliary works inside and outside the stadium, despite having been more carefully maintained and repaired in recent months. Hang Day Stadium is also no longer sufficient to host major tournaments. As for Thong Nhat Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City), in addition to the degraded and awaiting-repair B stand, the field surface is also in an alarming state.

For Vietnamese sports to take off, there needs to be high-class projects, with key investments and serious operational supervision. At the 1st Government Party Congress (October 13, 2025), General Secretary To Lam proposed investing in the construction of a number of key national cultural, sports, educational, and medical projects of regional and international significance, aiming for Vietnam to be able to host major sporting events such as ASIAD and the Olympics. Vietnam successfully organized the 22nd SEA Games (in 2003) and the 31st SEA Games (in 2022). However, to move towards larger events, international-class projects are needed.

Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang emphasized: "Construction of PVF Stadium is an important infrastructure investment project, concretizing the strategic vision of the Party and State, the direction of General Secretary To Lam on comprehensive human development and building a strong nation, and is an important cultural and sports institution. The construction site was carefully selected at an important trade gateway, converging factors of development space and outstanding connectivity. The project is designed to exceed international standards, aiming to organize major sporting events such as: ASIAD, Olympics, World Cup".
