On the evening of August 14, Nguyen Son Street ( Hanoi ) became crowded as people gathered along both sides of the road, waiting for the moment when the IL-14 aircraft with registration number VN-C482 was transported to the exhibition area. This was the special plane that carried Uncle Ho during the period from 1962-1969.
This IL-14 was given to Vietnam by the Soviet Union in 1957, one of the first 5 aid aircraft, including 1 IL-14, 1 Mi-4, 1 AN-2 and 2 Li-2.
This was also the first aircraft of the 919th Transport Air Force Regiment, serving to transport Uncle Ho and senior leaders of the Party, State and Army on business trips at home and abroad during the resistance war against America.
According to VTC News reporters, to move a plane weighing tens of tons on the street, authorities had to use a super-heavy trailer, moving slowly under strict guidance and protection.
Many people patiently waited for hours to witness the authorities transporting the special plane that once carried Uncle Ho.
“I have heard a lot about this plane, but this is the first time I have seen it with my own eyes. When I heard that it was being transported here, I invited my whole family to come see it,” said Quynh Nga, a resident of Long Bien ward.
“When the plane passed by, everyone raised their cameras to take pictures and record videos . I want to save this image so that I can tell my children and grandchildren that Hanoi once had such a special night,” said Nguyen Son, from Hai Phong.
With a light transport design, the IL-14 has a capacity of 26-36 people, a maximum speed of 415 km/h, a ceiling of 6,500 m and a maximum range of 1,700 km.
The VN-C482 cabin is specially decorated: In the front are 1.2 m wide beds, desks, and chairs; in the back are 4 extra seats, a sink and toilet, and a carpeted floor, ensuring comfort and elegance for special business trips.
