Could you please tell us about the significance and key activities related to the Vietnam-US relationship on the occasion of General Secretary and President To Lam and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation attending the high-level General Debate of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly and the Future Summit?

General Secretary and President To Lam will visit New York to attend the Future Summit and activities of the UN General Assembly, and will also have many bilateral activities with the United States. This is the first working trip to the United States in the new position of General Secretary and President To Lam, and is therefore of great significance, an opportunity to affirm Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification.

The working trip takes place at the time when Vietnam and the United States have upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation and Sustainable Development, as well as on the eve of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, so it will be an opportunity for both sides to look back on the past, draw conclusions, share and spread good lessons and experiences about relations between countries, and at the same time honor and express gratitude to generations of friends who have actively contributed to the relationship between the two countries. In particular, in the context of the United States preparing for the election and the upcoming leadership transition, the results of this working trip will help maintain and consolidate the momentum of progress in the Vietnam - United States relationship in the coming years, contributing to promoting peace, cooperation and progress in the region and the world.

With the above meanings, General Secretary and President To Lam will have a very rich and diverse program of activities in the United States, with a series of meetings and contacts with leaders, friends in the government, the business community, scholars, overseas Vietnamese, etc. In particular, General Secretary and President To Lam will chair events towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and one year of comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development between Vietnam and the United States, as well as deliver an important policy speech at Columbia University. On this occasion, many members of the delegation will also have bilateral activities with US partners.

How does the Ambassador assess the prospects of the relationship between the two countries after one year of upgrading to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development and towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations in 2025?

Looking back at the history of Vietnam-US relations, including nearly 30 years of diplomatic relations, it can be seen that the two countries have undergone strong developments: from two countries on opposite sides of the front line to friends and partners, comprehensive partners and now comprehensive strategic partners for peace, cooperation and sustainable development. In particular, in more than a year since Vietnam and the United States upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation and Sustainable Development, agencies of both sides have actively promoted cooperation on all 10 pillars of the new framework of relations, while making persistent efforts to narrow differences and enhance mutual understanding. Key areas of the relationship such as politics - diplomacy, trade - investment, science - technology, education - training, defense - security and people-to-people exchange have increasingly gone into depth, effectiveness and substance.

The United States continues to devote resources to support Vietnam in issues of mutual priority such as overcoming the consequences of war, energy transition, and responding to epidemics, and always promptly shares with the Vietnamese Government and people in difficult times, such as overcoming the consequences of the recent storm No. 3 (international name: Typhoon Yagi).

Saying so does not mean that there are no difficulties and obstacles ahead, but with what we have achieved, with the great potential and determination of both sides, with the spirit of looking to the future but being responsible for the past, respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions, I am completely confident that the relationship between the two countries is on the right development trajectory and will achieve many good achievements in the next 30 years and beyond, meeting the interests of the people of the two countries and contributing to promoting peace, cooperation and common progress in the world.

Thank you very much Ambassador!
