Mr. Nguyen Cao Thanh, Chief Representative of FPT Semiconductor Corporation (FPT Semiconductor) Office in Da Nang, said that Vietnam's semiconductor industry is entering an important transformation period and the Law on Digital Technology Industry creates a strong legal foundation for enterprises like FPT to deeply participate in the value chain of chip design, production and commercialization.

FPT deploys commercial chip projects in Vietnam; coordinates with universities, research centers and other digital technology enterprises to establish a training model of “study - paid internship - immediate employment”, developing human resources at three levels from basic to advanced and ready for the market. FPT also proposed to establish a “semiconductor one-stop shop” in key localities, applying preferential mechanisms for projects with spillover effects on human resources and supply chains.

“With its position as a center of digital technology, innovation and startups, Da Nang has many favorable conditions to develop the digital technology industry, especially in the fields of semiconductors and artificial intelligence. FPT is one of the pioneering enterprises to deploy experiments at strategic digital technology infrastructures such as Da Nang Software Park No. 2, FPT Complex and projects of artificial intelligence data center, chip research laboratory and semiconductor microchip Lab-Fab.

Besides large enterprises such as FPT Corporation, pioneering technology enterprises in Da Nang have long focused on their own software products, not operating under the outsourcing model such as: FAST Enterprise Management Software Joint Stock Company specializes in developing and providing software products for the domestic market such as accounting software, enterprise management (ERP); BRAVO Software Joint Stock Company with BRAVO ERP software provides financial management - accounting and production management solutions for domestic enterprises...

Meanwhile, small and medium enterprises in Da Nang also follow the trend of creating products with high added value, such as: BAP Investment and Technology Joint Stock Company applies mobile applications, artificial intelligence systems, and the Internet of Things; Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Joint Stock Company (AIAIVN) focuses on developing AI application products such as automatic answering consulting systems and automatic driving systems; Acronics Solutions Company Limited designs microchips (FPGA), specialized network infrastructure, etc.

Opening up new areas of development

According to the Department of Science and Technology, digital technology enterprises in Da Nang have significantly shifted from processing to making products, the revenue from processing has decreased sharply from 72% to 34%. The digital technology workforce is about 50,000 people, of which the workforce directly creating products in the software and digital content sector attracts 22,000 workers, accounting for 45% of the city's total IT workforce (the national average is about 15%).

The results of digital transformation have opened up opportunities for the development of the semiconductor industry. To date, the city has attracted more than 70 enterprises operating in the semiconductor industry and artificial intelligence, including large foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises and design centers and offices of prestigious global corporations such as Marvell, Synopsys, Uniquify, Synapse, Savarti (USA) and Renesas (Japan). Notable domestic enterprises include FPT Semiconductor (under FPT Group).

The highlight of the city's semiconductor development is the Laboratory project serving the production of advanced packaging technology for semiconductors (Lab-Fab) with a total initial investment of VND 1,800 billion in Da Nang Software Park No. 2. This is a pioneering project in Vietnam that integrates multiple functions: research (lab), pilot production (fab) and human resource training. The project creates a closed loop, helping to transfer scientific and technological research results (R&D) directly to pilot production quickly, laying the foundation for the commercialization of "Make in VietNam - Make in DaNang" products.

In addition, the City People's Council has just approved the implementation of the project to invest in computing infrastructure to serve research and development of semiconductor chip design and artificial intelligence (AI Lab) with a budget of 200 billion VND from the budget, expected to be put into use in December 2026.

Mr. Le Son Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, said that in 2025, the city plans to issue more resolutions to support the development of digital technology human resources, support the budget for key digital technology production projects and semiconductor chip projects. Da Nang aims to have the digital economy account for at least 35% of GRDP by 2030; the digital technology industry become a driving force for growth; form an international innovation and start-up center and a high-quality human resource training center.

“The city invests heavily in specialized infrastructure such as Lab-Fab and AI Lab, creating a “physical ecosystem” and the best support mechanism for research, testing and product commercialization, to shorten the distance from ideas to “make in DaNang” products, thereby attracting and retaining talents and large technology corporations,” said Mr. Phong.
