Digital transformation: The race to roll out 5G coverage is heating up.

DNVN - By 2025, 5G services and smartphones will become commonplace; by 2030, Vietnam will popularize fiber optic broadband internet services; and popularize 5G mobile network services. These are Vietnam's goals for the future, aiming for a 5G-covered society.

Recently, Viettel began commercializing 5G on a large scale. This is also the first network operator to do so in Vietnam, opening up a new and equally fierce competition in the mobile telecommunications market among network operators. Prior to its launch, Viettel's 5G network already had over 6,500 BTS stations, covering 100% of the capitals of all 63 provinces and cities, industrial zones, tourist areas, seaports, airports, hospitals, universities, etc.

According to assessments, Viettel's 5G network speed can be up to 10 times faster than 4G, with near-zero latency. This network technology is deployed simultaneously on both 5G NSA and 5G SA architecture platforms.

Viettel is a leading enterprise in digital infrastructure development, so its pioneering role in 5G network coverage is not surprising. However, Viettel's rapid progress has become a catalyst for other network operators to be more proactive if they don't want to be left behind. Immediately, VNPT/VinaPhone launched a 5G service trial program from October 13th to November 15th, 2024, offering free access to the super-fast service and sending notifications to customers. Not to be left out of the "race," MobiFone also announced an invitation for customers to experience 5G services starting in November 2024…

This vibrant atmosphere opens up the prospect of Vietnam joining the group of pioneering countries in the world in the widespread deployment of 5G networks.

According to Decision No. 1110/QD-BTTTT dated July 2, 2024, of the Ministry of Information and Communications approving the Plan to improve the quality of mobile telecommunications in Vietnam by 2025, the objectives are: To effectively deploy 5G commercialization with 100% of provinces and cities having 5G service coverage; and 100% of high-tech zones, concentrated information technology zones, research and development centers, innovation centers, industrial parks, and international airports/seaports having 5G service coverage.

The effective deployment of 5G services will provide a platform for businesses and organizations to adopt digital technologies in the digital transformation of their production and business operations, and will also be one of the positive factors promoting the digital economy, digital society, and digital government.
