In the context of increasing international trade tensions due to US tariff policies, cooperation between Vietnam and Japan will become extremely important because the two countries have many similarities.
This is the opinion of Professor Kurihara Hirohide at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Japan, given in an interview with VNA reporters in Tokyo, ahead of Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's official visit to Vietnam from April 27-29.
According to Professor Hirohide, Vietnam and Japan are not countries with many natural resources and both share the goal of developing an independent and self-reliant foreign policy.
In the current volatile world context, the relationship between Vietnam and Japan has become extremely important. He believes that cooperation between the two countries can become a model for smaller countries on how to develop independently and sustainably without depending on external factors.

Regarding Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba 's visit to Vietnam , Professor Kurihara said this is an important opportunity for the two countries to discuss ways to cooperate in a volatile world situation.
He emphasized that economy, security and green transformation are important areas of cooperation in the relationship between Vietnam and Japan.
Regarding human resource training, Professor Kurihara said that the increase in the number of Vietnamese workers in Japan in recent years is a positive sign.
However, according to him, Japan needs to improve the way it uses this resource to maximize the potential of Vietnamese workers.
He said Vietnam possesses a highly capable human resource and expressed his belief that the effective use of this resource will bring great benefits to both sides.
According to Professor Kurihara, Vietnam's role in Japan's foreign policy strategy in Southeast Asia is very important.
He believes that cooperation between Vietnam and Japan can demonstrate to other countries that although they are not large countries, the two countries can still follow their own development paths.
