Hanoi Football Club pays tribute to former famous players

On April 18, at Tao Dan Stadium (HCMC), two players Nguyen Thanh Chung and Do Hung Dung, representing Hanoi Club, met, visited, gave gifts and expressed deep gratitude to famous former players such as: Ho Thanh Cang, Duong Van Tha, goalkeeper Luu Kim Hoang, striker Le Van Tu (Tu Le), Phan Duong Cam (aka Hien), Tran Van Xinh...

In the 60s and 70s of the last century, famous players such as Tu Le, Ho Thanh Cang, Duong Van Tha... made Vietnamese football famous with the Merdeka Cup 1966 championship, competing on par with and creating many memorable matches against strong opponents in the region such as Korea, Japan, Israel, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia. They were not only idols of the time, but also symbols of will and determination in the journey to preserve and develop football amidst countless difficulties.

After the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, most of these former players have made worthy contributions to the further development of Ho Chi Minh City football in particular and the whole country.

During the meeting, midfielder Do Hung Dung emotionally said: “We always appreciate the silent but extremely great contributions of you guys to Vietnamese football. That is the foundation and motivation for our generation to continue, to make more efforts to develop our country's football strongly, reaching out to the regional and international arenas.”

The activity to honor famous players is not simply a meeting. It is the continuation of a cultural mission, the way Hanoi Club – a typical representative of contemporary football – expresses the spirit of “remembering the source of water when drinking water”, paying tribute to the past to look forward to the future.
