The suffocating situation before the ball rolls

The 5-1 victory of Hanoi Women's Club over Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club II in round 9 not only helped coach Phung Thi Minh Nguyet and her team continue to nurture hope, but also pushed the championship race to the most dramatic stage. After 9 rounds, Ho Chi Minh City I is leading with 25 points, while Hanoi is in second place with 23 points. The gap is only 2 points - enough to turn round 10 into the "final match" of the season.

If Ho Chi Minh City I get at least one point at Thanh Tri Stadium, they will be crowned champions for the seventh consecutive time. Conversely, if Hanoi wins, the capital team will touch the national championship title for the 11th time – a title they have been waiting for for the past 10 years.

Previously, in the first leg, the two teams drew 2-2 in a thrilling match. At that time, Hanoi led by 2 goals but Huynh Nhu shined with a double to equalize for Ho Chi Minh City I. That memory made Thanh Nha and her teammates even more determined in this reunion.

In the rest of the rankings, Vietnam Minerals and Coal (Than KSVN) ended the season impressively with a 1-0 victory over Phong Phu Ha Nam , thereby officially entering the top 3. Thai Nguyen T&T ranked fourth after defeating Ho Chi Minh City II with a score of 2-0. The last two positions belonged to Phong Phu Ha Nam and Ho Chi Minh City II.

Thus, the final match of round 10 taking place this afternoon (October 13) will not only determine the championship, but also be an occasion to close a dramatic season, clearly reflecting the progress of Vietnamese women's football in both professional quality and competitiveness.

Hanoi and the desire to regain its glory

Once a symbol of Vietnamese women's football with 10 championship titles, Hanoi has not been able to reach the throne for the past decade. The capital team had to witness the dominance of Ho Chi Minh City I team, winning 9/10 of the most recent titles. Therefore, the 2025 season is considered a valuable opportunity for coach Phung Thi Minh Nguyet and her team to rewrite history.

In terms of strength, Hanoi has a balanced squad with many national players such as captain Hai Yen, striker Thanh Nha, defender Diem My or goalkeeper Kieu Trinh. In addition, young players such as Ngoc Minh Chuyen and Hong Nhung have also matured significantly after the 2024 season, helping the team have significant depth and youth.

On the other hand, Ho Chi Minh City I is still the “big guy” of Vietnamese women’s football, with a stable squad including Huynh Nhu, Thuy Trang, Chuong Thi Kieu, Bich Thuy… – faces with a lot of experience and courage in international tournaments. However, that experience sometimes makes the team lack freshness and innovation in playing style.

Coach Phung Thi Minh Nguyet shared before the decisive match: “We respect Ho Chi Minh City I – a very strong and experienced team. But Hanoi is ready to fight with the highest spirit. Our goal is to win, not only to win the championship but also to affirm the position of the capital’s women’s football.”

Throughout the season, Hanoi has shown impressive form with an explosive attack (scoring 26 goals in 9 matches – the most in the tournament). The defense has also gradually stabilized thanks to the return of Diem My after injury. The 5-1 victory over Ho Chi Minh City II in round 9 is a testament to the overall strength of the Capital team in the final stage of the season.

According to football expert Phan Anh Tu, the match between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City I will be a real “test of mettle” for both teams: “Ho Chi Minh City I has the advantage of experience, but Hanoi is in a more excited spirit after a series of successful matches. When the gap is only 2 points, the home field advantage and the enthusiasm of the capital's audience can make a difference. If Hanoi takes advantage of the opportunities in the first half, the possibility of winning is very high. If Ho Chi Minh City I has Thuy Trang and Huynh Nhu, then Hanoi has Thanh Nha and Hai Yen, who are also very dangerous.”

According to football commentator Vu Quang Huy, the capital team is at the "ripe" time to return to the throne: "After many seasons of only finishing second, Hanoi this year has all three factors: form, aspiration and a balance between experience and youth. If they maintain their concentration and do not make mistakes in the final minutes - which caused them to drop points in the first leg - Hanoi can absolutely be crowned."

Regardless of the final result, Hanoi's fair competition with Ho Chi Minh City I shows the strong transformation of the capital's women's football. With the methodical investment direction of the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center, and the support of the Department of Culture and Sports, Hanoi's youth teams are developing well, providing stable resources for the first team and the national team.

In 2025, Hanoi will have up to 8 players on the list of the Vietnamese women's team. This is a clear demonstration of the quality of training and coaching in this team. Victory - if it comes on the afternoon of October 13 - will not only be a championship title, but also an affirmation of the position of Hanoi women's football on the national map, opening a new stage of development full of expectations.
