Ca Mau province has about 90,266 hectares of shrimp rice production.
The whole province of Ca Mau has about 314,982 hectares of rice production; of which, summer-autumn rice is about 94,142 hectares, winter-spring rice is about 93,469 hectares, autumn-winter rice is 34,035 hectares, shrimp rice is about 90,266 hectares and winter-spring rice is about 3,070 hectares, with an estimated output of 1,864,000 tons/year.
Ca Mau province has many favorable natural conditions for agricultural production, especially high-quality rice. With the characteristics of coastal land, rich in nutrients, especially trace minerals, providing good quality rice, less pollution; low level of pests and diseases, along with the strong application of technical advances and promoting the implementation of collective economic models, helping to improve the efficiency of rice production and meet VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and domestic and international organic standards, suitable for domestic and export needs.
Implementing the plan to develop rice production in the province in 2025, Ca Mau province set a target of achieving a rice cultivation area of 189,374 hectares, a sown area of 314,982 hectares; of which, the area using certified rice varieties is over 85%, high-quality varieties are over 70%, the amount of seeds sown is 80 - 100 kg/ha over 70% of the area; the area applying advanced cultivation processes is over 60%, reducing fertilizers and pesticides by 25% or more, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 10%.
Applying synchronous mechanization in rice production reaches over 50% of the area; reducing post-harvest loss to less than 10%; profits for rice growers reach over 30%.
Call for connecting 10-15 enterprises to sign contracts for linkage and consumption of rice with 15-20 cooperatives and 7-10 enterprises to sign input linkage contracts. Strive to link production with consumption (with linkage contracts, orders) to reach 15% of the cultivated area. Pilot the model, replicate the model of producing high-quality rice with low emissions associated with green growth on a scale of 1,290 hectares.
