Along both sides of the Tay Ninh canal, many sections have been constructed with embankments, parks, planted trees and ornamental plants, and equipped with lighting systems, contributing to a clean, beautiful, and well-maintained urban landscape.
However, in recent years, the beautiful canal in the heart of Tay Ninh city has become increasingly overgrown with weeds, water hyacinths, and water spinach, encroaching on almost the entire canal and affecting its flow and waterway traffic.

Aquatic species affect water flow and waterway traffic.
Observations on November 25th showed that in some sections, water hyacinths, weeds, and water spinach covered approximately 80% of the water surface. Only a small space remained in the canal, just wide enough for a small boat or canoe to move along. Some local residents had to go down into the canal to cut grass and clear away water hyacinths and water spinach to create space for setting traps and fishing. Many types of wild plants and weeds grew excessively, forming a dense layer, contributing to the accumulation of waste, causing environmental pollution, creating conditions for mosquito breeding, and posing a potential risk of disease outbreaks.

Weeds and water hyacinths have grown rampant, encroaching on almost the entire canal.
Following the recent heavy rains, weeds and aquatic plants have proliferated, encroaching on the canal. In addition, significant sedimentation has occurred in the canal bed, considerably hindering water drainage from upstream into the Vam Co Dong River. This has led to rising water levels, threatening the roads and houses along the canal banks.

In some sections of the canal, water hyacinth, weeds, and water spinach cover about 80% of the water surface.
Given the current situation of weeds and aquatic plants encroaching on the canal, residents hope that the local authorities will pay attention to cleaning up the area, removing all cultivated vegetables and weeds, and dredging the canal bed. Only then will the Tay Ninh canal be able to fully fulfill its function and live up to the standards of the modern and well-developed urban area.

The grass was so abundant that locals released snails into the canal hoping they would eat some of it.

The canal near Quan Tay Ninh bridge is also covered with weeds.

Hopefully, the Tay Ninh canal will be cleaned up soon so that it can fully utilize its function and be worthy of the modern and well-maintained streets.
