Opportunity to attract international visitors from visa exemption policy

The Government has just issued Resolution No. 229/NQ-CP on visa exemption under the tourism development stimulus program for citizens of 12 countries from August 15, 2025 to August 14, 2028. This new policy opens up many opportunities to attract diverse international tourist markets, contributing to the development of different tourist segments.

"The push" to attract customers

The resolution clearly states that visa exemption is granted to citizens of 12 countries: the Kingdom of Belgium, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Republic of Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Republic of Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic, the Republic of Slovenia and the Swiss Confederation...

Citizens of these countries will have a temporary stay of 45 days from the date of entry for tourism purposes, regardless of passport type, on the basis of meeting all entry conditions as prescribed by Vietnamese law.

This new policy is considered an important "push" to attract visitors from potential international markets to Vietnam in general and Da Nang in particular.

Since the beginning of the year, the number of international visitors to Da Nang has grown steadily.

According to the City Statistics, in the first 7 months of 2025, the total number of visitors served by accommodation establishments is estimated at 10.8 million, an increase of 18.9% over the same period in 2024; of which international visitors are estimated at 4.3 million, an increase of 21.6% over the same period, and domestic visitors are estimated at 6.5 million, an increase of 17.1% over the same period in 2024.

The average number of overnight guests in the first 7 months of 2025 is 1.88 days/time, of which international guests stay 2.03 days/time; domestic guests stay 1.75 days/time (in the same period in 2024, it is 1.81 days/time for general guests; 1.93 days/time for international guests and 1.70 days/time for domestic guests).

Besides, after the merger, Da Nang has a very rich and diverse product ecosystem, the source of international visitors also has slight fluctuations, the key international visitor markets of Da Nang are now Korea, Taiwan (China), China, UK, Australia, Malaysia, India, France, Thailand...

Many tourism businesses believe that, previously on March 7, 2025, the Government also issued Resolution No. 44/NQ-CP on visa exemption for citizens of 12 countries, including: Federal Republic of Germany, French Republic, Italian Republic, Kingdom of Spain, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Russian Federation, Japan, Republic of Korea, Kingdom of Denmark, Kingdom of Sweden, Kingdom of Norway and Republic of Finland.

The continuous visa exemption for countries has opened up favorable opportunities to attract international visitors, especially when Da Nang enters the low season for domestic visitors.

According to tourism businesses, along with 18 regular international flights from destinations such as Bangkok (Thailand), Singapore, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Taipei, Kaohsiung, Macau, Hong Kong (China), Siem Reap (Cambodia), Incheon, Busan, Daegu, Cheongju (Korea), Vientiane (Laos), Manila (Philippines), Ahmedabad (India), Yangon (Myanmar), Dubai currently operating to Da Nang International Airport, the expansion of visa policies will contribute to increasing competitive advantages in attracting tourists from countries in the region.

The visa exemption policy is a step in the right direction in attracting tourists, but it is only a necessary condition. The important thing is how to attract and retain tourists to stay longer.

For a long time, in the structure of international visitors to Da Nang, visitors from European markets have not been many; this market of visitors often prefers tourism products to experience and learn about local culture...

Therefore, the city needs to soon research destinations in the direction of linking existing resources with indigenous culture, improving product quality, professionalizing tourism products and services; improving the quality of tourism human resources; forming unique cultural experience products, building tourism product packages linking culture - tourism - cuisine - ecology suitable for each customer market, thereby having appropriate promotion solutions.

It is known that in recent times, the city's tourism industry has also actively participated in promoting and advertising tourism in distant markets such as introducing Da Nang tourism in Milan (Italy), Geneva (Switzerland) and Paris (France) in a series of programs introducing Vietnamese tourism organized by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) (May 2025).

In the near future, we will welcome famtrip and presstrip delegations from Australia, Europe, India, Kazakhstan, and participate in international fairs...

Through promotional activities, the city's tourism industry introduces its strengths such as high-end beach resorts, conference and exhibition tourism (MICE) and golf tourism...; businesses meet and connect with partners from distant markets.
