At the recent regular Government press conference, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son announced university enrollment data for 2024.

According to Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son, at the time of finalizing the data, there were about 733,000 candidates out of more than 1 million students registered to take the high school graduation exam. This rate is quite high, reaching 68.5% while 2 years ago, this rate was 66.5% and about 64%.

As predicted, this figure shows that the demand for university education of high school graduates has increased as well as the labor market, the demand for high-level human resources of society has also increased. This is consistent with the trend of socio-economic development of the country. According to the national master plan until 2023, we must reach 260 students per 10,000 people, which is about 1.3 times higher than the present. So with the above trend, we will achieve this goal.

This also proves that the trust of learners and society in the quality of university education has had positive changes in recent years.

“Regarding the situation of which majors are most registered, whether many candidates are registering for STEM majors, Science, Technology and Engineering majors, we would like to inform as follows: Considering both the structure and comparing the increase and decrease compared to previous years, we see that today, students are very carefully advised on the characteristics and career opportunities of the majors as well as information about the labor market. Therefore, the trend of choosing majors and training fields is reflected through the percentage of students' wishes. Of course, these wishes do not say everything because after students are admitted to school, it will be more accurate, but it is also initial information in a positive direction.

Firstly, as every year, there are a total of nearly 400 training majors, divided into 24 fields. There are many fields and the actual demand is very large, so comparing the absolute number or structure between fields sometimes leads to incomplete assessments.

The field with the most candidates registered is business and management, followed by engineering and technology. STEM fields such as computers and information technology also have quite a lot of candidates registered. The Deputy Minister of Education and Training said that the trend related to the development of high-tech careers, especially related to semiconductor design, the total number of wishes this year related to semiconductor design increased by 30%, of which the first wish increased by 40%. This shows that the candidates are also very sensitive, well-informed, and approach the development trends of science and technology, especially high technology.

Specifically, Teacher Training Science increased by 85% compared to 2023; the number of wishes in the field of Natural Sciences increased by 61%. Meanwhile, some fields decreased, business management decreased by 3%; computers and IT decreased by about 5%, equivalent to 15,000 wishes. Overall, the number of wishes in the STEM block accounted for about 30%. The semiconductor design industry increased by about 30%.

Floor score for Pedagogy industry in 2024

Previously, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the threshold to ensure input quality from high school graduation exam scores for admission to majors in the group of university-level teacher training majors and college-level Preschool Education majors in 2024 for candidates in region 3 with the minimum score (without coefficient) of all combinations of 3 exams/subjects as follows:

– The threshold to ensure input quality for majors in the group of majors training university-level teachers is 19.0 points; for Physical Education, Music Pedagogy and Fine Arts Pedagogy, it is 18.0 points for the admission combination of 3 cultural subjects, other admission combinations are implemented according to the provisions of the current Admission Regulations.

– The threshold to ensure input quality for the college-level Early Childhood Education program is 17.0 points for the admission combination of 3 cultural subjects. Other admission combinations are implemented according to the provisions of the current Admission Regulations.

Pedagogy industry benchmark score in 2023

In 2023, Pedagogy is one of the majors with very high benchmark scores.

For teacher training majors, the major with the highest benchmark score of Hanoi National University of Education in 2023 is History Pedagogy, reaching 28.42. History Pedagogy major of Hanoi National University of Education 2 has a benchmark score of up to 28.58.

At Thai Nguyen University of Education, the History Education major also has the highest admission score with 28 points. Following that is Literature Education with 26.85 points, Geography Education with 26.73 points.
