Land where tourists can freely pick up diamonds

According to AP , in 1906, John Wesley Huddleston dug up two strange stones in his turnip field in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, USA. He felt that they were very special, so he put the two stones under a grinding tool to test their hardness. The two stones were very hard. Therefore, John decided to have them evaluated. Unexpectedly, finding two strange stones changed everything.

It turned out that the two stones John found were diamonds. The information was revealed and the "fever" to find this precious stone reached its peak. However, John was not interested in mining diamonds, so he sold the land to the investment group for $36,000.

The mining operation did not go well, so the land was renamed "Crater of Diamonds" and opened to the public for diamond prospecting. The state of Arkansas purchased the land in 1972 and turned it into a park.

According to many old American documents, at that time, this land had some more private tourist attractions opened but the diamond picking location was under government management.

The state government has leveled an area of more than 15 hectares for the public to pick up diamonds. It can be said that Crater of Diamonds is the only place in the world that is open to visitors freely. When coming to explore and want to pick up diamonds here, visitors will be given detailed instructions on how to find diamonds. Here people can stay for a long time, surrounded by cool streams, shops selling all kinds of goods. In addition, there is a large campsite next to the Missouri River.

People are allowed to bring their own diamond-digging tools to the park, except for battery-powered or motor-powered tools. If they find a diamond, they can keep it.

The only thing to pay is the entrance fee, which is $5 for children (ages 6 to 12) and $8 for adults. If you don’t have your own diamond prospecting or panning tools, you can rent them here.

Amusing Planet reports that more than 75,000 diamonds have been found here since 1906. Every year, visitors find an average of more than 600 diamonds of various types and colors.

According to researchers, Crater of Diamonds was once a volcanic crater with an area of about 368 hectares. The area for tourists to hunt for diamonds is 15.2 hectares wide. After analysis and dating, the diamonds in Crater of Diamonds were formed 3 billion years ago. Previously, they were deep in the Earth's crust. About 100 million years ago, volcanic magma columns erupted and brought them out of this crust. In addition to diamonds, the ground in Crater of Diamonds also contains a number of other precious stones such as agate, jade, quartz, etc.
