Police dive to find safes under canal, dismantle theft gang in Ho Chi Minh City.

Following a motorcycle theft in Dong Thanh commune, Ho Chi Minh City, the police expanded their investigation, uncovering a group of suspects involved in a series of crimes, including the theft of a safe containing a large amount of gold and cash.

On May 27th, the Dong Thanh Commune Police in Ho Chi Minh City, in coordination with other professional units, quickly apprehended a group of individuals specializing in property theft, recovering all stolen property worth nearly 200 million VND.

Earlier, at around 3 PM on May 24th, Mr. Nguyen Vu Ca (born in 2003, from Dong Thap province) reported to the Dong Thanh Commune Police that his Honda Wave motorbike, license plate 66GA-100.62, worth approximately 20 million VND, had been stolen from his residence in Hamlet 87, Dong Thanh Commune, in the early morning of May 22nd.

After receiving the report, the Dong Thanh Commune Police, in coordination with Task Force No. 8 of the Criminal Police Department (PC02) of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, promptly investigated, tracked down, and summoned two suspected individuals: Nguyen Ngoc Thach (born in 2004) and Duong Minh Thien (born in 2005).

At the police station, both admitted to committing the aforementioned motorcycle theft. After committing the crime, the group sold the motorcycle through Nguyen Van Tinh (born in 1984, from Tay Ninh ) to Pham Thanh Long (born in 1981, from Tay Ninh) for 6 million VND, then divided the money among themselves.

Expanding the investigation, Thach and Thien confessed that in addition to the motorbike theft, in the early morning of May 23, they also broke into a house in Vinh Loc commune, Ho Chi Minh City, and stole a safe containing many valuable assets.

After bringing the safe to the Bà Mẫn canal bank in Bà Điểm commune, the two men broke it open and took all the contents, including 1.6 taels of 18K gold, 2.5 taels of 24K gold, and a large amount of cash, totaling nearly 200 million VND. Afterward, they threw the safe into the canal to destroy the evidence.

Due to the canal being about 3 meters deep and having many obstacles, the search for the stolen goods was very difficult. On May 25th, the Dong Thanh Commune Police, in coordination with the Fire and Rescue Police Team of Area 19 ( thuộc Phòng PC07), successfully dived and recovered the safe for investigation purposes.

During an emergency search of the suspects' residences, the police recovered all the stolen property along with many tools and equipment used in committing the crimes.

Continuing the investigation, on May 26th, the Dong Thanh Commune Police, in coordination with the PC02 Department, summoned Nguyen Van Tinh and Pham Thanh Long to clarify their involvement in receiving stolen property. The victim's Honda Wave motorbike was also seized as evidence.

At the investigative agency, the suspects admitted to all their crimes. The Dong Thanh commune police issued an urgent arrest warrant for Nguyen Ngoc Thach and Duong Minh Thien for "theft of property"; and also urgently arrested Nguyen Van Tinh and Pham Thanh Long for "receiving stolen property".
