Returning to Phong Hiep commune after the provincial merger, we were greeted with a warm smile by Major Nguyen Cao Sau, Deputy Head of the commune's police force. He is also the initiator of the "Smart Security and Order Gate" model, which can automatically open and close via smartphone control, aiming to improve the effectiveness of crime prevention and control in the area.

From practical concerns to useful initiatives

Major Nguyen Cao Sau's idea was the result of many sleepless nights pondering the complex security situation in Phong Hiep commune. The problems of young people speeding, reckless driving, revving engines at night, as well as theft, robbery, gambling, and public disorder, caused anxiety among residents. To quickly address this situation, based on Major Nguyen Cao Sau's initiative, the Phong Hiep Commune Police proposed building a "Smart Security Gate" model in Hamlet 1B. This model is an upgraded version of the traditional "Security Gate and Fence" model, with a Steering Committee and a Management and Operation Team.

The "Smart Security Gate" was built at the gateway of Highway 1B in Phong Hiep commune, bordering Vinh Phuoc commune. It features a robust system of rolling gates, automatic control, and internet-connected surveillance cameras. Even from a distance, the commune's police command and members of the management and operation team can quickly control the gate's opening and closing using software installed on their smartphones in case of security incidents. When operational, it sounds an alarm to alert people traveling or nearby, and can even assist law enforcement in apprehending criminals.

Major Nguyen Cao Sau stated: "Since 2023, the application of digital transformation to the 'Smart Security Gate' model in Hamlet 1B has promptly detected criminals and offenders, actively supporting the commune police in combating and handling crime, and preventing undesirable individuals from operating in the area."

For example, through intelligence gathering and camera surveillance, the Phong Hiep commune police were able to determine the direction of movement, thereby closing the gates and promptly arresting a group of teenagers carrying sticks and homemade weapons who had come to the area to settle a dispute with local youths. At the same time, they prevented several groups of teenagers from engaging in illegal street racing and causing traffic safety disturbances.

In particular, the "Smart Security Gateway" helped the Phong Hiep Commune Police detect and arrest Pham Thi Hong Phuong (Tan Thanh Ward, Ca Mau Province) for transporting hundreds of smuggled cigarettes. They also arrested Phan Van Tan (Phuoc Long Commune, Ca Mau Province) for motorcycle theft. Tan was also the perpetrator of numerous motorcycle thefts in neighboring areas…

Spreading the spirit of serving the people.

With its practical effectiveness in the fight against crime, at the end of 2024, the "Smart Security Gate" model in Hamlet 1B was honored to be recognized by the Ministry of Public Security and announced for nationwide replication.

Colonel Nguyen Thanh Binh, Deputy Director of the Department for Building the Movement of the Entire People to Protect National Security (Ministry of Public Security), assessed that the operation of the "Smart Security Gate" model has achieved many positive results, contributing to ensuring good security and order, and effectively serving the task of local socio -economic development.

For the local people, the model further affirms the spirit of serving the people by the local police force. Since the "Smart Security Gate" was installed, complex incidents have gradually decreased. Mr. Nguyen Hoai Cham, a local resident, happily said: "With a sturdy gate and automatic camera surveillance, criminals are more hesitant and don't dare to act rashly anymore. Thanks to that, we can sleep peacefully."

After being merged from Phong Thanh Tay A and Phong Thanh Tay B communes, Phong Hiep commune has a larger area and population than before, which means that the task of ensuring security and order in the area requires higher demands. However, with the proactive and creative spirit of the local police in applying digital transformation and the unity of the entire population in fighting crime and social evils, we believe that this rural area will remain peaceful.
