On June 27, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police informed that the police agency continuously initiated criminal cases on smuggling as prescribed in Article 188 of the Penal Code to investigate signs of buying and selling a series of "huge" temporarily imported foreign cars that were "forgotten" to re-export.

Specifically, in March 2023, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police coordinated with the Customs force to inspect 5 cars with Lao license plates, including: Hyundai Santafe with license plate 4655; Range Rover Evoque with license plate 5577; Mercedes C200L with license plate 6769; Toyota Prado with license plate 1919; Lexus LX 570 with license plate 5548. The above cars had expired their temporary import period and had not completed re-export procedures and showed signs of buying and selling foreign temporarily imported - re-exported cars not in accordance with the law.
In May 2023, Thanh Hoa Police force coordinated with Customs force to continue to inspect, verify, detect and decide to temporarily detain 3 cars: 1 Toyota brand car, Highlander, license plate 6969 (Lao license plate) expired temporary import and re-export for 30 days; 1 Toyota Camry brand car, license plate 30A-254.74 without sufficient documents to prove origin; 1 Toyota Camry brand car, license plate 51A-62425 with inspection stamp and road use fee stamp expired from March 30, 2015.
Currently, the cases are being processed by Thanh Hoa provincial authorities according to the provisions of law.
