New Zealand has just launched a new tool capable of early prediction, helping farmers better prepare for extreme weather conditions.
| Weather forecast on NIWA website |
This free tool was developed by the National Institute of Atmospheric and Water Research (NIWA) and the New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries. Equipped with the latest artificial intelligence technology and weather forecasting modeling, the tool provides weekly rainfall predictions, dry spells, and drought risk forecasts up to 35 days in advance. It also updates daily, capturing the latest changes in the climate system. According to NIWA, the tool offers long-term forecasts with significantly higher spatial resolution than before.
NIWA meteorologist Ben Noll said the tool helps increase the frequency and narrow the scope of forecasts for rainfall, drought conditions, and droughts, providing higher-quality warnings about future drought events.
