Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union: Innovating organization, adapting to digital transformation, taking comprehensive care of workers

This is a conference to summarize and evaluate the results of the first 6 months of the year and set out the key directions and tasks for the last 6 months of 2025 of the Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union in the context that the trade union organization is entering a period of strong innovation, associated with the comprehensive digital transformation process of the science and technology sector.

Reporting at the Conference, Mr. Pham Quang Huong, Permanent Vice President of Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union emphasized: In the first 6 months of 2025, Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union has performed well its role of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers.

Care programs are organized extensively and practically, clearly demonstrating the responsibility of trade unions in the context of workers' difficult lives.

During the Lunar New Year, the Union spent more than 1.3 billion VND to take care of union members. During the Workers' Month and the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Health, a series of practical activities were organized such as giving gifts, visiting and supporting union members in difficult circumstances. 450 union members were given shopping vouchers, nearly 300 union members were directly supported with a total amount of hundreds of millions of VND.

Trade unions at all levels visited and supported 3,366 union members with a total budget of over 3.3 billion VND. At the same time, the Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union also coordinated with units such as Vietnam Post Corporation and Medlatec Group to organize preferential booths and periodic health check-up programs for workers, helping to practically improve welfare and medical care.

Conference Overview.

In the first 6 months of 2025, 324 new union members were admitted, 415 outstanding union members were introduced to the Party, and 389 comrades were admitted to the Party. The organization, staff, and union organization building work continued to be improved in a streamlined and effective manner, in line with practical requirements and the direction of digital transformation.

Notably, during the reorganization process, the Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union issued a decision to terminate the operations of 10 affiliated trade unions, hand over and receive trade union organizations at all levels, ensuring the maintenance of the organizational structure and quality of operations. As of July 1, 2025, the Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union manages 246 grassroots trade unions, with nearly 88,000 union members. Of which, it directly directs 54 trade unions, including 3 unions directly above the grassroots level and 51 grassroots trade unions.

At the Conference, many sincere and frank opinions from the grassroots reflected the practical difficulties in organizing trade union activities, especially in newly merged or model-converted units. Delegates also shared many good practices and effective models, contributing to clarifying the issues and proposing specific solutions to improve the effectiveness of trade union activities in the new period.

Speaking at the Conference, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology , Chairman of Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union Pham Duc Long acknowledged and commended the results achieved by trade unions at all levels in the past 6 months.

The implementation of a two-level organization in a streamlined manner poses many new challenges, requiring trade union organizations to strongly innovate in terms of content and methods of operation. In particular, digital transformation is not only a trend but must become a specific action, associated with each activity, each movement, each program of caring for, training, and developing union members. In addition, trade unions at all levels also need to research, organize, and rearrange the trade union model in localities in a flexible manner, suitable to the specific situation of each locality.

In the last 6 months of 2025, the Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union will focus on key tasks such as disseminating the Party's directives and resolutions and the State's policies and laws; promoting the patriotic emulation movement, the emulation movement "The whole country innovates and transforms digitally"; preparing to organize the grassroots trade union congress for the 2025-2030 term; continuing to implement the Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union's Digital Transformation Plan; organizing training and coaching on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual assistants for union members; surveying and developing online training programs to improve professional qualifications and skills.

In particular, the Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union will organize a ceremony to honor outstanding workers and grassroots union officials in the 2023-2025 period; continue to take good care of union members on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2026.

With the spirit of drastic action, innovation and close connection with workers, the Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union is gradually affirming its core role in caring for and protecting workers, actively contributing to the sustainable development of the industry and the country in the digital transformation period.
