Technology June 22: Zalo leads messaging application in Vietnam

VNG announced the latest information about development platforms at the 2025 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders with growth goals and AI, globalization as the focus.

Zalo is the leading messaging app in Vietnam.

At the 2025 General Meeting of Shareholders, VNG Corporation said Zalo continues to surpass other international platforms, with 77.8 million users and nearly 2 billion messages sent every day.

Payment platform Zalopay recorded outstanding success with its multi-purpose QR code (GVPA growth of 1,531%) and newly launched personal financial services (revenue increased sharply by 149% compared to 2023).

According to this company's statistics, 20% of Zalo users - equivalent to about 15 million people - are using AI features such as translation, AI avatars, etc. every day.

In the coming time, VNG will promote AI integration in the entire operation block and all business areas. This direction not only creates a foundation for sustainable growth, but also serves the key strategy of "Go Global".

VNG said its online gaming segment continued to be its core business, with the game publishing division maintaining its leading position in Vietnam with 74.3 million active users per quarter. The game development division also recorded a 37% year-on-year growth in bookings, thanks to its orientation of tailoring games specifically for global users.

Digital Business, VNG's B2B business segment, continues to position itself as a leader in AI infrastructure and digital transformation in the Vietnamese and regional markets, currently serving more than 1,000 corporate customers.

By the end of 2024, VNG recorded consolidated revenue of VND 9,273 billion, adjusted net profit from business operations of VND 302 billion, marking a clear recovery compared to the loss of VND 23 billion in 2023.

Based on this growth momentum, VNG targets VND10,773 billion in revenue in 2025 and a CAGR of 19% in the context of a volatile technology market.

These are noble awards from the Party and State, demonstrating the attention, trust, encouragement and recognition of the contributions and achievements of key leaders in Viettel Group in the important tasks of the Fatherland.

In addition, 3 Second-class Fatherland Protection Medals and 9 Third-class Fatherland Protection Medals were also awarded to leaders of Viettel Group's High-Tech Industry Department, Deputy Directors of Viettel Aerospace Institute as well as Directors of Centers under Viettel Aerospace Institute.

With outstanding achievements in the field of defense and security, in December 2024, Viettel Aerospace Institute was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, recognizing its achievements in researching, manufacturing and successfully producing high-tech strategic weapons, contributing to the modernization of the Army and enhancing national defense potential.

Huawei Technologies Announces Beta Version of HarmonyOS 6

At its annual developer conference, Huawei announced HarmonyOS 6 beta, which integrates AI agents and the HarmonyOS Agent Framework toolkit that allows developers to create virtual assistants without training a base model.

The new operating system is already available on more than 40 devices, with over 30,000 apps and 8 million developers in the ecosystem. Huawei also introduced a new version of its Pangu AI model 5.5, with a language processing capacity of up to 718 billion parameters and computer vision of 15 billion parameters, targeting applications in healthcare, finance, government, and manufacturing.

According to Canalys , Huawei has shipped more than 103 million smartphones and 21 million tablets running HarmonyOS, with nearly half delivered by 2024, signaling a rapid shift to its in-house operating system.

Notably, Huawei recently expanded HarmonyOS to laptops, affirming its ambition to build a "pure Huawei" device ecosystem and not depend on foreign technology.
