Technology first appeared at the April 30th Parade

According to an announcement from Vietnam Television (VTV), the parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification will be broadcast live on the morning of April 30. In addition to TV channels, viewers can watch the event on YouTube and the VTVgo app. This year, the new feature on the digital platform is the image stream selection feature, allowing users to watch parades according to their preferences and needs.

“Especially on the national digital platform VTVgo, in addition to the signal stream similar to that on TV, viewers also have a different experience by choosing their own image streams to watch parades and marches,” quoted from VTV's article.

With the image stream selection feature, the audience is no longer limited to a single camera angle chosen by the director. Instead, viewers can proactively select different camera streams to follow the program from the desired perspective.

According to VTV representatives, this is the largest live broadcast program ever with about 46 cameras recording simultaneously. Viewers can see views from helicopters, on the roofs of the tallest buildings in Ho Chi Minh City or the footsteps of officers and soldiers. Augmented reality (AR) technology is also integrated into some frames.

Stream selection features appear in some apps, especially with entertainment or sports programs. For example, on the F1 TV app, F1 TV Pro subscribers can switch between dozens of camera angles on each driver's car, follow the live data sheet, or choose commentary from different languages.

Similarly, viewers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the NBA League Pass package can watch multiple games at once on one frame, or choose multiple camera angles during a game.

In entertainment, the Coachella music event from 2024 will be streamed live on YouTube TV with a multi-view feature, allowing users to choose four stages or camera angles to watch at once, and listen to audio from their favorite stage. In eSports, Riot Games offers a pro-view feature when watching professional League of Legends. Users can choose from either the team or individual player's computer perspective for a more immersive viewing experience.

The new approach also requires a powerful connection and processing infrastructure. The broadcaster sends multiple streams simultaneously. On the viewer side, the application must also support switching between camera angles and a strong network connection.
